All,
Can anyone help...

I need to find some 'thin' 5" wheels for a warbird project that I am currently building.

In my quest for the 'thinnest wheels' I have come across the William Bros 'Golden Age' design.

Question...The model will probably turn out @ 30lbs in weight and I wondered if these would be sufficient for the Job...Has anyone had any experience with these wheels?

I can't speak for Williams Brothers wheels but if you don't get a source to pan out, you might try some Dubro Vintage wheels and see if they will meet your needs.

Williams Bros wheels now come with an "inner liner" that should hold up to the weight of your model. I purchased a set, for a 35# warbird. I sold the warbird and mounted the wheels on my Cessna Airmaster, which weighs 23#.

AM6 you are looking for Williams Bros Smooth Contour wheels. they are the thinnest in overall width and are set up with a smooth cover.

Tom, did those wheels come with air fittings? :D

No air fitting, David. The "inner liner" is foam, I believe. It solidifies the wheel so that it won't sag under the heavier weights of larger birds.

DuBro has the air fitting type.. Mine leaked on the Stuka. I replaced them with "solid" wheels.

Why not ask the source. I spoke with the guy who runs William's Bros. a couple of years ago. He was very willing to discuss applications.

Thank you very much for your input.

In the end I have now chosen tofit the wheels that I originally had which are Williams 'Baloon style' in 5.25inch.
The 'weight/very thin tyre' aspect worries me, and I need something functional on a model that has less than ideal ground handling characteristics.

Basically this has held the project up for a number of weeks now and I just want to 'crack on' and I have magaged to squeeze these in with zero room to spare..

Unfortunately this has meant that I have to go through the upper wing surface, and am going to make larger than scale blisters to suit.
