RE: Eindecker EIII
That's pretty neat, prolly about 7/8 scale maybe only 3/4 and resembles an EIII. The nose is too long has a windscreen, ailerons, modern airfoil etc. But a neat concept.

I think this will give "Windows" a whole new meaning!
Larry has designed a series of building jigs to keep the rear fuse aligned when cutting in the cross pieces. The jigs are slid over the fuse and located as marked on the plans and pinned in place - it makes fitting the cross pieces more precise and makes gluing them in very easy.......and all the while keeping the fuse straight and without twists. :) yah, I liked that, too! Kudos to Larry [8D] |

I think another look at the ingenious series of fuselage jigs that Larry designed for this kit is in order. I have located them on the plans in their respective locations. The windows, if you will, represent the cross section of the fuselage at each location - sheer genious!
The fuselage is now straight and the stab is almost perfectly aligned with the wing tube. A difficult task made easy. I have been envolved in this hobby since 1975 and this is the most foolproof system of joining the tail together and cutting in cross pieces that I have experienced. Oh, just in case you haven't been paying attention - this is a 1/3 scale model - yah, I'm liking this a lot! |

Since Paul came and got the Eindecker that I had framed up I have been busy with this new one.
Not doing to badly working in the evenings and one weekend so far. Yes the Mid-Atlantic Dawn Patrol is on my list of events for this year. Making some small changes as I go to make it even easier to frame up. Larry |
RE: Eindecker EIII
This is a well designed kit, what a great idea! Building the fuselage straight is the hardest part of the whole build. This is something you would think of if they were building an ARF kit to mass produce. The pictures of the airplane and you shows how big the model will be when finished. Keep up the good work and post pictures.

RE: Eindecker EIII
Hello ,
Great looking kit ! Any idea about it's price when it will be offered? Very interested... Keep up the nice work ! Greetings, Bruno . |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Bruno, here is a quote from the designer a couple of posts back.......a price is yet to be determined....Art
ORIGINAL: CubCrafter I will be releasing the production kits as soon as we have the prototypes flying and proven. Should be sometime in April and then onto the fly-ins. Larry |

I have added the diagonals to the top and bottom of the fuse.
Also I am trying figure out the hatch - there seems to be some L's I don't know what to do with....... |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Art. Could they be offcuts from ather pieces (waste?)
EDIT... I gotta tell you that the jig pieces for the rear of the fuselage are brilliant. I can see working that into a future build. Doc |

Art,
The "L" pieces go inside against the fuselage for the king post to rest against. Larry |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Art,
Did you do that little trick we talked about when adding the top cross piece where the angle starts to tamper to the rear? Your fuselage looks like it has less bow in the top longeron than mine did. Larry |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Thanks Larry! I was hoping you chime in.......
Well Doc, there's the answer. |

Larry Nope......I thought about it, but I wanted to use all the pieces that were in the kit along with the jigs without any modifications. I think it went together very well. I must have used staighter wood or sumpin':D |

Doc,
The way I did the jigs was since I did this all in 3d I was able put a cutting plane at each upright and then did an intersect with model to get the outside shape of the fuselage at that point. Then all I had to do was delete the shape made by the intersect and it left the hole in the cutting plane. Larry |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Hello Larry,
I jumped in late to see what Art's was building this year and did not realize until this evening that the design is your handy work. Very nice, I must say. I look forward to seeing it during the 2013 contest season. Ripley |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Larry and Art,
I am following your build with great anticipation. I was looking into the SR version, but wanted to go as big as possible. Being from the Frozen Tundra (Wisconsin) I am already palnning to build your plane (hopefully) next winter. Chris923 Chris Milbauer Flying Electrons Meno. Falls Wis. P.S. I know Norman Kaz well, he has been to many of your Dawn Patrols. |

Hey Bob,
I plan on flying this in Fun Scale at the Mint Julip and the NATS. Will you have your T-34 to enter or will you be judging? I have been working on this and some other designs all with 3d cad software and laser cutting my own kits. Really starting to get into this Dawn Patrol flying thing. I have been collecting lots of documentation on the Nieuport 17 and may do it at half scale for the 2014 Dayton Dawn Patrol. I have been working with Art some on his half scale Nieuport 11. |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Hi Chris,
I have been very pleased with the response so far about this design and my engineering methods. This has given me the confidence to proceed with other projects that I have wanted to do for a long time, all "scale" and 1/3 scale or larger. I can't wait to get one into the air. The accountant (wife) wants to see kit orders. Larry |

RE: Eindecker EIII
Larry, well whatever your story is the jigs for the fuse rear are brilliant, what a great way to assure true building of an area that can be a struggle at times, dont ask if I've ever built a bananna!lol Anyway you make it sound like nothing to it but you thought of it and I've never seen anything like it before.

Hello Art,
The Eindecker is massive and I am marvelling at the engineering thought that Larry put into his kit. Watching you breath life into this subject is down right fascinating. Larry, The T-34 is flight ready and about 98% complete. I am thinking of showing it at Toledo and soon after, it will have it's maiden flight. If I don't roll it into a ball then I am planing on competing with it at the Mint Julep and maybe the NATs after that but my bride thinks that I may have a conflict with the family vacation. Unfortunately, my plane is going to end very close to 20 lbs so the whole roll-up-into-a-ball thing is a possibility. In that case it's back to the judges box for me. Ripley |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Bob,
Looks like I need a replacement for the Super Cub to compete against your T-34. Larry |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Thank you Larry.
Art, back to you. Ripley |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Bob
That was a nice interlude.......your T-34 looks great! You need to stay in the pilot's box for a while with this one........looks like it should static very well. And flying is why we build 'em, right? Art |

ORIGINAL: geezeraviation She really is lookkong nice Art, I think you have risen to the top. Doc It's all in the engineering, Doc, that's where the magic is in this project ....... my mojo comes out when we get out to the flying field! That's what it's all about for me! Striving to get to the top is a good place to be :)...........but if you're already there then the only direction is down [X(]. So, if you don't mind .....let's leave me somewhere on the uphill quest [8D] |

Speaking of participation................:)
Here are a couple of pics with wheels ....leading edge formed (nice forming tool Larry)....the cut outs in fire wall to cool the DA and a final mock up of the dummy cowl and the prop... Art or larry did you guys decide whats going on in the "tail skid" area? The plane was mocked up with everything EXCEPT the servos and covering and she came in at 31# .......and she was real nose heavy........yes the tail was way up in the air! We wont get tooo excited until we have all the componets installed....but I think we can keep the weight under 34 lbs.....a 132 inch 1/3 scale plane!!! Hats off to Larry,,,and you too ART! LOL! HPA |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Paul
She looks good up on her feet! That's a good range for the weight, too - I think your cowl helped with the CG. My old 1/3 scale EI that I flew in competition for several years weighed in at about 42 lbs and it was a very good flyer and appeared light on the wing. That plane had a shorter wing span and narrower chord than Larry's versiion of the EIII. Quick, get her covered tonight.....Saturday is supposed to be sunny and in the 40s. We can give her a test hop! Cheers,, Art |
RE: Eindecker EIII
Wow Paul very impressed.
Finally seeing it on wheels really gets me going. I am geared up to build both wing panels on my new one this weekend and then I will have all of the major parts framed up. Two weeks and a couple of days isn't to bad. Ordered covering and wire from Balsa USA this week, I have wire coming to make up a prototype gear and I have been working on getting a fiberglass cowl made. Larry |

I think it's a Ziroli, but Paul will know for sure.
