F6F Hellcat
Need some help and ideas fellas. I am in the process of finishing my Wing Hellcat. As all Hellcat fans know the Hellcat had a unique type of panel finish. They were overlapping panels and not panel lines. I have considered doing panel lines but it wont come close enuff. I am considering Flite metal or something like thay to get the desired effect.....but that has its draw backs ie time , costs and paint adhesion. Anyone have any suggestions? I am trying to come up with a project that could possibly winor place in my scale contest.....you guys know, a secret weapon, something to make you take a second look , something that looks scale.

RE: F6F Hellcat
There are several posts on panel lines here in the forums. It's been covered extensively. Do a search. Specifically, for overlapping panels, instead of using a thin tape with a primer buildup on both sides, you use a wide tape and do your primer build on one edge of the wide tape. Layout your tape in a manner that puts the overlap appearance in the correct direction.
Again, do a search. The posts I have seen have great graphics included. |
RE: F6F Hellcat
G-man,
I used the method chuck describes on my ziroli hellcat and it worked fine. just do one at a time...mask, spray, remove mask and move to the next panel..mask, spray, remove, etc....all the way back along the fuse. if you do it front to back as the panels overlap you won't have to wait for each one to dry. just keep moving back. :) |
