New project?????
Well xmas is well on its way and i have 2 planes to finish both with not much left on them to do :) just covering and the usual touch ups and checks....
point is im stuck for my next project, over the years i have stuck with WWI & II scale stuff but i feel like a change this year.. i don't want no run of the mill project as thats the only reason i don't have a P51 there isnt a pilot at our field that hasn't got one lol.... im tossing between the !QUOT!De Haviland Dragon Rapide!QUOT! http://amber-designs.com/rapide1.jpeg or the fiesler storch i know its classed wwii but its a bit different ;) im looking more towards the dragon as they are very rare and you just have to love that plane :) any other suggestions? |

RE: New project?????
Why don't you try a STOL plane?.....I'm currently trying to to verify plans of a "HELIOPLANE" ........While the model I'm interested in is a 1953-4 vintage, the later ones were all metal construction, about 6 to 8 seaters....They featured at Oshkosh, giving great displays of slow flying and extremely short landings and takeoffs....The original plan I have is of a plane built by aeronca .......later belanca built them and again someone else which I will have to look up,......I have a mag somewhere with pictures.........I'm new to this ......can I send scanned pictures on this setup???.....Cliff Cooper

RE: New project?????
I have the Sweitzer Dragon Rapide plans on disk and can plot them out any size for the cost of plotting. I believe they are around 90 or 100 inches as drawn. From what I can find these are no longer commercially available. If interested drop me a note at [email protected].

RE: New project?????
A few years back I was in the same predicament. So I added a new section to my plans that is basically only templates on the side. They are arranged so I can tile print, from sheet # X to sheet # X. I was able to do this for my 62" ws 109 and it turned out great. My next step is to do banner printing on my inkjet. That should take care of the ribs but I'll probably have to tape for fuse formers when I enlarge it to 86" ws.

RE: New project?????
Well thx for all your replys and ideas guys,
ProfLooney has been kind enough to send me a set of plans, so it looks like it means clearing off the work station #2 for xmas to start :) by the looks of the plans (very nice plans i must admit) it looks big enough for what im after so no resizing needed :) ill let you guys know when i start and feed ya the pics! im getting all excited now :) |
RE: New project?????
I have a set of plans for R. Sweitzer's 1/6 scale 98" DH 89a Dragon Rapide and parts one and two of the articles in Scale RC.
I am looking for cowls and any other parts that were made for it. Does anyone have parts for sale or that can be sent to be reproduced? If this comes up blank, I will most likely make FG parts myself when it comes time to start this project. But for now I have other projects for this winter's building season, so it may not be started till next winter. Can anyone supply scale detail info. I can't seem to find profile info on the correct "RAF-34 modified" airfoil the Dragon used. Apparently they used the RAF-34 airfoil, with different modifications quiet often, on various aircraft; the Lysander for example. Cliffco: In the articles, George Harlan talks about the stol characteristics of the Dragon. He says it flys off in about 3-4 plane lengths at 16 lbs AUW powered by two K&B .61's. He says 2 good 40's would fly it. I thought a couple of Enya 60 or 80 4-C's would be nice and they would fit inside the cowl. Does anyone know how to contact George Harlan? I would like to get copies of the scale documentation he used for his Dragon. ZZ |
