GP 40-sized J-3 Cub - Clipped or full-scale?
Hey everyone. I'm building my first Cub. I have the Great Planes 40-sized Cub with an OS 70 Surpass. In the instructions, they recommend for scale flight the full wing and a small 4 stroke. And for aerobatics, they recommend the clipped wing and the OS 70 4 stroke. The catch is...I want to put this on floats next summer. Does anyone have any experience with a clipped-wing Cub on floats? Will the airplane still slow down enough with the clipped wing and floats? Thoughts?

A scale Cub actually has a pretty long wing. Clipping the wing brings it down to the same proportions as a lot of sport models. I had one of these with a clipped wing and .61 four stroke. It was a fun everyday flyer.

Buy a second wing kit and have both.

I had (still have) one with clipped wings and .46 2 stroke powered. Way to much, even in clipped mode.
Full wing... it'll fly with a .25! |
