Hello Everyone,
Thought I'd post some pictures of a Hostetler 1/5.5:1 P-6E I'm finishing.
I picked this airplane up at Lebanon Swap meet in Pennsylvania 3 years ago. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080492http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080493http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080494http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080495http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080496http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080497http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080498http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080499

the covering went well. I used Solartex Olive Drab and Yellow, and the paint (wheel pants and cowl) is Randolph Ranthane Olive Drab and Rustoleum Cherry Red.

The Stars are vinyl graphics (came with the project) the Stripes Monokote True Red and Black Trim sheets and Yellow Great Planes 1/4" Striping tape.
The 94th Indian heads are scanned in cleaned up in photoshop and printed on clear glosshttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080522http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080533http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080532http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080531http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080530http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080529http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080528http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080527http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080526http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080525http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080524http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080523http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080534 vinyl sticker sheet.

Good looking airplane. One of the prettiest planes ever designed. Dont think a Lycoming will fit in it, what is powering it, and how much does it weigh?

LOL TFF,
You're right! Lycomings are too bulky :Dhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2080870
So I settled on an XYZ 50cc with RCexl ignition. right now all up weight is 22 lbs. looks like the CG is dead on with no added weight.
I'm waiting on my Biela 20x10 carbon Fiber 3 blade (Semi- Scale) also have a Xoar 22-10 2 blade coming for break in.

In case you're wondering, I chose this paint Scheme because EVERYONE does the Snow Owl Scheme from Selfridge Field 17th Pursuit Squadron, I chose to do one from the 94th Pursuit. I like the red and to tell you the truth I like the idea of representing the 94th pursuit squadron (Eddie Rickenbacker, Reed Chambers etc. etc.) Believe it or not after WW1 the 103rd (n124 Lafayette Escadrille) and the 94th (Hat in the Ring) were composited together and became the 94th and adopted the Indian head of the Lafayette Escadrille.

I was on a full scale site, today, and crop dusters were being thrown around, and found this picture. I think they are P1s; cant quite tell if they are 94th or not. The Hawks with the Hawker biplanes are the the tops for me. When I first learned to fly RC in the lat 70s, one of the old guys flew P-6s in Texas; he flew P-40s in WW2 which is what I was more interested in as a kid. One story I do remember was that they would drain the oil out of the engines in the winter, and heated it up on the kitchen stoves, and pour it in the engines when they were going flying.
