You really are going to do it?
https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.M...90&o=4&pid=1.1 When I saw your 1/2 Camel at ODP I was floored.. this will be insane! Try not to sleep at the building table , this project will require actual sleep in a bed or lazyboy at least. The size of the 1/3 is intimidating.. the 1/2 is practically an ultralight. To say I will be following along is an understatement... |

It's good to hear at least someone in the USA is keeping up with the Germans pushing the limits of scale RC engineering.

Billy,
will this be built similar to the plans? or are you mainly using the outlines with your own internal design? it would be fun to be able to drop in and see this one in person. |
Lance , I will be using my plans, and yes there will be allot of head scratching ,,,,But I think I am up to the challenge ! I will try to incorporate the same building techniques I used in the Camel !

DVII Day 5 ,,,Bottom Wing Ribs.
5 Attachment(s)
Today I started tracing my paper template patterns on to Plywood and Balsa sheets 48 inches long x 4 inches wide ! In 2.50 hours I cut out 24 ribs for the bottom wing . I also cut out the wing tip . Tomorrow I will cut all the main spars and start assembly ! The ribs in a DVII are different sizes, Root rib is the largest , each bay out towards wing tip get shorter in higth maintaining length,, The top of the wing is built flat 90 degrees to sides of fuselage ,thus giving built in dihedral according to a scale outline I am referencing ! I used this same design when I built the one piece wing for my Scale 1/3 DVII . It took alot of lumber to make that stack of ribs ,,( Last photo ) http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150497http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150504http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150518http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150519http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150520

You are going to need an electric starter on this one so you don't break your hand trying to start it.

DVII Dat 6 Lower Wings
5 Attachment(s)
today Day 6 ...29 hours in to build ! I got both lower wing panels mostly framed up ..In Two and a half hours tonight ,I stripped 8 wing spars 3/8 x 3/4 x 62 inches long .I Run each of them through the plainer to clean them up .The Leading edge is made from 1/2 x 3 36 Balsa stock I joined the two pieces together by cutting them at a 45 degree angle at one end and I used Epoxy to join them end to end ..I will use a second (outer leading edge ) and epoxy it to the inner leading edge for strength ! I used my 6 foot aluminum ruler straight edge to keep each wing spar straight during the building process. Inboard rib is 90 degrees of the top main spars . Wing tips are finished in a standard fashion ! Third shift is going back out to finish the trailing edges ....SEE I HAVE TWO WINGS STANDING UP BY THE FUSE ! Tonight I will mount them to the fuselage ! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150720http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150726http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150722http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150723http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2150724
