Cermark Pitts S2B

I recently aquired a Dave Patrick designed Pitts S2B made by Cermark. It was complete except for the assembly manual. Does anyone have or know of a cooy I can buy or copy? Thanks in advance. - tucano007

Is this the ARF or is it the kit?

There was quite a bit on the web about the top wing separating during flight. I had one come apart during straight and level flight. Talked to mister Patrick after this happened and he told me that after selling the design he had no control over changes made by the new owner. From the pictures he mentioned that it appeared the design and quality of wood left a lot to be desired. The center section was riddled with mold and this you could not see with the covering in place.

It's a shame to have that sort of situation with an ARF that cost just under 400.00. I had met the owner of Cermark a couple times at a California trade show. He was friends with my employer at the time. After experiencing their business model first hand this sort of thing comes to no surprise to me. Since leaving the industry I have not purchased a single item that they produce.

No, never did. I guess I will have to "wing it"..

Bill Diedrich 02-23-2019 05:58 AM

I have the manual and would be glad to copy it for you. I am currently redoing my Cermark Pitts S2B, stripped
the covering off and building a new tank platform, going gas this time around, formerly powered by a Super Tiger
2300 glow engine ( guzzled fuel like crazy). BTW which color scheme do you have, the red one or the blue & white one?

tucano007 02-23-2019 10:39 AM

Bill..
That would be much appreciated. Is there a way I can compensate you for the copy charge? I have the Red color scheme. I am planning on putting a DLE 20RA in it. I have a H9 Christen Eagle II 90 size with a DLE 20RA in it and it is a little hot rod!

I addressed it RCU: Tucano007 with your street address.

Cermark Pitts S2B

Bill..
My name is Wiliam also, last name is Cahill. Thank you so much. I will send a picture when it is done. It may take awhile as I am repairing a Waco SRE from Sig that I broke two years ago(stalled it). A friend is painting the cowl for me now.. Again, many thankxs -Willjam

It's in the mail, you should get it in about 4-5 days is my guess.

Bill Diedrich 03-02-2019 04:26 AM

Did you receive the manual I mailed to you? Let me know that you got it.

Bill Diedrich 03-04-2019 09:35 AM

Got the "Thank You" note in the mail today, glad to be of help, that's what is great about this hobby
people helping others.

Are you going to do an assembly thread here on RCU? I would like to post some pics of my "Refurb
Project" Cermark Pitts S2B if you don't mind.

I had 250 flights on my red and white first-gen Cermark Pitts and recommend using some triangle stock for landing gear on inside the fuselage. The model has very weak wood structure where the gear bolts to it. You can easily accomplished this from inside forward section. Good luck, it's a fun model and easy to fly for a biplane. - Ken.

William how's the Pitts coming along? Here's a couple pics of mine that I recovered
and fitted out with a RCGF 30 twin gasser.

cermark pitts s2b color scheme

I just got a cermark pitts s2b arf in the red and white scheme. Do you by chance do what color of red it is I am having the hardest time matching it up to order a roll for a wing repair.

I believe it came from manufacturer covered with Ultracoat. I'm not sure the name of the red but it is a dark red. Perhaps you could find a list of Ultracoat colors online and see which shade of red looks the closest. Better of course at a local hobby store if you have one and they still carry Ultracoat.

I just bought one yesterday and it has the manual. Let me see if it has the colors listed.

Old thread but did anyone ever come up with the manual they could share as a PDF?? Just picked up a red and white one of these so not sure if it is the old or new version? Has servos for each aileron rather than links.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I had an original red and white one and it used one servo for all 4 ailerons.

That must have been one serious servo!! How did you connect it to all the ailerons??

rcphotog 10-15-2020 09:13 PM

I used a standard servo connected to torque links for the bottom ailerons which in turn were connected to the top ailerons via slave rods. It's a very common method used on biplanes with four ailerons. Sometime about 30 years ago people began using a servo for each aileron. While I think that is overkill for small biplanes 60" span and under, but probably necessary on bigger biplanes. Especially ones used in IMAC competition. Those are typically larger than 25% scale and heavier than 10 pounds.

I have that setup on some of my old Flair Scout biplanes which is OK for scale type flying. My Wotswot has one per wing pair with top to bottom link rods. With the 1/4 scale Pitts I'd want to at least have the 2 servo setup but as the hatches are cut into the wings may go that route.
Thanks for you're input.

Ducati, did you ever find a copy of the manual? I'm a new (Used) Cermark Pitts S2B owner too and am trying to find one.
