Flying Stab
 

About to start a scale build of the Piper Cherokee. Plans show a conventional stab/elevator set up. Real one however uses a full flying stabilator. I want to go with the Stabilator on the model but have some questions regarding the hinge or pivot.

The stab is 9 inches by 36 inches. It pivots around the 28% point from the LE. It will also be statically counter balanced. Looking for detailed suggestions as to the pivot mechanism? Steel pin inside re-enforced tubes, etc. Size of components, etc.

Right now I'm thinking the pivot pin/rod will be either a Stainless Steel rod of 1/4 inch mounted in bearings and attached to the rear bulkhead of the fuselage or perhaps a SS Tube of the same dimensions. Pin will be 14 inches extending into each stab half by 6 inches or 1/3 of the stab.

Socket is currently a 1/4" ID G-10 tube sized to fit inside an aluminum tube of 1/2" OD. Socket will become a part of the spar.
Anticipated top speed of model, without gravitational assistance, is 60-65 mph range.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
