Royal Quality scale kits

Hi guys, new to the site. We recently lost our father and are currently sorting through all his RC gear.
we have lots to go through but we’ve just come across a collection of unbuilt ‘Royal Quality’ kits...
we have:
BF109E
A6M3 Zero
Mk1 super marine spitfire
P-26A Peashooter
Curtis Hawk P-6E

im just trying to find some history on the kits... how old (ish), were they considered good kits in their day and how are they regarded now?.. and are they sought after kits nowadays?

I'm not sure exactly when they came out but the Royal/Marutaka kits were very popular in the late '70s, all through the '80s, and then slowly fading out in the '90s. It's been a long time but if memory serves Royal went under in the mid '90s. Back when they were readily available they were generally considered good quality kits but very much aimed at traditional modelers who did not mind doing lots of carving and sanding. However, these days (and through the lens of some rose colored glasses IMHO) they seem to be remembered as the best thing since sliced bread and they fetch some pretty amazing prices. Thus I would recommend doing your homework as you may be sitting on a couple of real gems there. There is a Facebook group dedicated to the kits which might be a good place to start.

And this thread may be of some interest to you.

Good luck with the sales,
