Source of Scale Pinking shears???

Hi I did a search for pinking and had a lot of hits but no definite answers. Would someone please identify a good source of pinking shears that cut fine enough for 1/4 scale

TIA
Tom

tom, I don't think there is a source for 1/4 scale ones but look in a fabric store for the smallest ones they have. I have also heard of people using the metal strips supplies with some wax paper boxes. I haven't tried that myself so I cant vouch for its worth. BobH.

Make sure the plane you are putting the pinking tape on does have that type of tape .
some planes have just straight edge tape . I am into WW1 & found that sometime early 1915 or so they went from pinked tape to straight edges . Think a lot of "newer" planes also are straight .

Tom,

Check out this page:

Not the shears, but a pinking rotary cutter, the regular cutters are great for Monokote......

Hope this might help......:)

For what scale would the rotary pinking cutter be suitable?

Gary,

Don't have a clue what the scale is, as I don't think it was designed for scale projects. The wheel is 45mm or 1.7 inches with 20 cutting teeth, the diameter is 5.338 inches, so each point of a cut will be spaced .266 inches.

Hope this helps.........:)

There is a tape made by 3M , it is some 1/2" wide has a sticky back & has the very jagged edge you are looking for. It is used by women to put in their hair when doing a perm I believe . It is a pink color , comes in a plastic roller like scotch tape & is some $4 a roll .3-4 rolls will do a fair size model . I put it on & then put some dope over before painting . I got it in the drug store , C.W.S. I think . I have used it for years , good stuff .

Hurri, what size planes are you using the hair-dresser tape on? Sounds interesting!!!

Gary, Most of the tapes you see on full scale airplanes is 2" so at 1/4 the 1/2" tape is jus right. Hurri is right about the hair setting tape and the pinked edges are about right. For straight edged tapes use paper surgical tape. The tapes around the trailing edges and leading edges was 3-4" tape so keep that in mind. Also when doing the tapes the rib tapes go on first then the trailing edge tapes over the rib tapes. Also there are tapes werever there is an edge of wood or metal or tubing under the fabric. Don

I found a pair of pinking sissors in the school supply section of Walmart that are half the size of regular sewing pinking shears. They have a bunch of sissors with different designs for kids to cut designs in paper. Work great.

I too, am looking for some smaller shears ,,, I tried the ones out of the school supply but it didnt cut the fabric real good, ,,, What about the pinked tape from Balsa USA ,, is something wrorng with it ,, or is not the right size for your plane,,, I have heard of people using the Medical Badage tape that has the pinked edges ,,, but it seems a little thick to me ,,,,,,
