Painting Silkspan?
I have a Dymond Tiger Moth in an "antique finish". It's Silkspan covered, a sort of tan opaque. I'd like to paint it and have no airbrush or compressor. My garage is pretty cluttered and I'd rather not invest in a compressor right now.
What commercially available spray products are out there that you have used succesfully , yield a good siemi gloss finish , and are obviously fuel proof. I have tried black baron sprays many years ago and it started coming off after a while. Spray dope is very expensive. ( 10$ a can) All suggestions are appreciated. |
RE: Painting Silkspan?
Spraying is best, but you can get a nice doped finish by brushing on thinned dope (50/50, thinning to 75/25)) and carefully wetsanding the brush marks out with "used" 600 grit wet/dry every third or fourth coat... Use a good quality camel hair brush... Repeat till you get the finish you want.... You need to be careful around edges or wing bays, though...
