Gee Bee engine choice
 

There seems to be enough Gee Bee builders to warrant this questions. What do you guys have in the front of them.

I have a kit on the way (Adrian's Gee Bee Z)and I am pretty set on the Saito 72 but I have never run a 4 stroke so I keep thinking about an Irvine 53.

I talked to him personally and he has never run a 2-stroke in one. He uses the Saito 56.

So if you don't mind sharing you engine and prop choices I would appreciate it.

I took his advice and got a saito 56. He has this plane down to a science and it flies good with this engine. I am about to finish mine and hope it flies as good as he says. Why mess with success. 4 s engines run well if you get one of the good ones,os or saito. Once you get them dialed in they give you no trouble and there is no matching the sound.

With a 2 stroker, it's probably gonna be tail heavy. A Satio 65, or 72 would probably balance it near perfect.

I'm using a TT .46 2 stroke in my same size KYOSHO "Z", but solved the balance problem by mounting the battery pack on a bracket, slung under the engine. The battery pack is insulated from the engine by air, and is completely hermetically sealed. If you want to go with a 2 stroke, your idea of a Irvine 53 might be a good one.

I've a Saito 72 in both a Lainer Corsair and a Pizazz and it's a great engine. I run YS 20-20 fuel in most everything and I have 4 Saito's.

What size props are you using on the 72's?

Got mine Gee Bee Z the other day and am going to use a Magnum 61 4 stroke...........Model looks very good...One thing I don't like is the tail wheel set up, but I can live with it...I think this will be a fun model and will fit into my van, assemble.....

I use a YS 53 four stroke in my Kyosho Z and I had to add a little nose weight just behind the firewall, but the power is great and the YS is very dependable.

I have the Page Gee Bee with an OS 91 4 stroke using a 14-6 or 15-6 prop. The bigger prop looks better with the big cowl. Did you get the redesigned landing gear? They want to nose over real easy. No nose weight was needed and it flys great.

I used both the Saito 56 and OS 70 in mine. The Saito was excellent and the OS flew it even faster! Used a 14" prop to get some blade area outside that big cowl.

The 72 would be a great choice. There is tons of volume inside the fuse, so the battery pack can be moved around to achieve proper balance without adding extra weight.

With a 2 stroke, you would need a pitts muffler to clear the firewall.
