Scale static propellors

I would like to make scale propellers for all of my planes. I have made some in the past from carving flyable wood props, and gluing them together,or carving blades out of balsa. but some props have a very special shape that is difficult to duplicate and time consuming. after spending all that time building the plane, I wish there were ready made scale static props available. what do you use to get the right look on the nose of your plane?

It really depends on the plane. If you've got a WWI plane, there's almost as many different props as there were planes. I think what you mentioned about carving a functional wood prop is about as good as anything, as long as the scale prop is 2-bladed. I carve one blade and get it looking like what I want, then trace a template of the profile so I can match the other blade to the first. There are commercially available static props available, but the selection is probably limited.

You on the right track. Make one ply blade prime it smooth , then make a slilcone rtv mold of it and use urethane resin to produce as many as you want.

Get all the material form Smooth-on .com. May have to do a search for the name if it doesn't connect.

Hi!
I have made 3-bladed scale carbonfiber props for my Marutaka DC-3 (functional 10x5).
If anyone whats some....let me know.

Has anyone heard about Aerotech props? www.aerotechmodels.com/static.htm

Pretty nice blades. What size engine, rpm and thrust are you getting out of that blade.

Scale dail, nice urethane resin stuff but a bit too expensive for me.

RE: Scale static propellors

Hello!
When I designed the 3-blade scale prop I had as a goal the same or slightly less rpm as the OS .FS 26 delivered with a APC 10x5 two blade prop....which was around 10000rpm using 15% Motul "micro" all synthetic oil and 5% nitro.

Luckily after having worked hard for several months with the mold making, the 3-blade 10x5 prop turned around 9200-9600 on the same fuel as mentioned above.
I haven't measured static thrust as it doesn't say so much about how the model will behave in the air but standing behind the engine when it turned the prop felt good as much air was pushed backward.
So I just hope the 3-blade prop will work.

Regards!

Heres a pic of what I'm trying to do. Scale BF 109 carbon adjustable pitch blades for an 80" model. There are on a RCV 120 (1.89hp) right now doing 3500 rpm.

The 20"arc is a bit much for the RCV. I just purchased a Dave Patrick/Moki 210 (5hp) for this prop setup. The moki should turn it with no gear down required.

Hopefully

Steve
