1/4 scale pull/pull

Cany anyone give me a good idea of a pull/pull system for 1/4 scale models? Is the 4-40 size large enough for this application?
Thanks for any help

I use that size on my 1/5 Spit with no problems. I don't think you could break the cable if you tried with the loads we see from our control surfaces. Most likely your rudder connection would fail first..just my .02

More than likely 4-40 will be more than strong enough. I've used this setup on my 1/5 scale warbirds as well as a 1/4 scale aerobat and haven't experienced any failures yet.

I have used 4-40 connectors on 1/4 scale Tiger Moth and 1/5 scale Albatros, without any problems. Also use the 40-50 # plastic coated SS standed fishing leader from Pro Bass. Comes with a bunch of crimp connectors. Works great and price is right. Seems like same type material in the pull pull kits that are available-(.024 dia.) I think something else will fail before the connectors or leader will break. Just my $.02.

Thanks for all the information. I think I will check the Pro Bass website. I am also considering a new Hybrid fishing line that is said to be 10x stronger than steel. Comes in different sizes and weights. Only problem is the color of dark green, white or yellow. It is called Power Pro Braided Spectra Fiber line and stretch is close to 0.

Be very careful. This stuff is sorta slick and doesn't take too well to a whole lot of knots. I go fishing a lot and use this for backing. Everyone uses a "Bimini Twist" in the spectra before tying with an "Albright" knot. In my opinion, you'd be better off using the plastic coated cable. Besides, the spectra WILL get wear over time.

Just my opinion: should be yours;)

Thanks again for the warning. I think I will just use the coated cable from the bass shop.

Hey flipstart,
I am trying to locate the steel leeder that you mentioned. The only thing I can find on their web site is coffee color. Is this the item your speaking about? Any help would be appriciated, like a link or part number.

Thanks

JEB- Here are the part nos from their 2005 catalog or go on line and search for Malin steel leader on their site. 21-422-350-00 thru 21-422-360-00 depending on the test you want. Ditto on the spider wire type fishing line-it is tough to get a knot to hold and frays easily ( fishing is my second hobby-I live 15 minutes from best trout fishing in East TN)

The stranded SS line is coffee colored but not as bad as coffee color sounds-you can see the leader thru plastic. Same stuff as supplied by several mfgs in the pull/pull kits-even comes in same type package. 30' for $4 with dozen crimps-works for me. Diameter is .024 - .041 - I used the .024 on my last plane. Other salt water fishing shops may have the clear- have not looked lately.
