Quick Question on Pilot Scale
I am looking at the size of the pilot bust for my new Pitts and it recommends 1/5 scale. I have been checking most of the sites recommended in many of the RCU threads. I have found some 1/5 scale, but one that I really like is listed as 25% size. With 1/5 being 20%, would a 25% pilot be too far out of scale to be realistic? Just wondering before I go and order one.

RE: Quick Question on Pilot Scale
Maybe read the small dissertation on pilot size versus scale pilot size at http://www.hppilots.com/gpage16.html
Pretty good source for detailed pilot figures and busts, too. Don't let the painted online versions deceive you - the detail on the O&G pilot busts and figures is remarkable. |
RE: Quick Question on Pilot Scale
Thanks Fred,
I have been looking at this site and am impressed with what they have to offer. I will be contacting them by email to see if they have a recommendation. I am trying to find a pilot for my new CG Monster Pitts. CG lists the pilot bust size as 1/5, but want to make sure that I get one that looks right in the cockpit before I order. My thought is that a 25% size will still be within reason, but want to make sure. There are couple of pilots that I am looking at that are available in 25% size, but not in the 1/5 (20%) category. |
RE: Quick Question on Pilot Scale
Keep in mind that the size of a pilot be it 20 or 25 % is just a guide. People are not the same sizes and that's at Full Scale!. The only thing that really looks objectionable is a pilot that is obviously too small or too large. Like a 1/6 guy in a 1/4 WWII plane..

RE: Quick Question on Pilot Scale
Thanks Bob, that is a good point. I wil be measuring the size and comparing the differences between the 20% and 25% to make sure. My guess is there is not too big a difference in these two sizes and a 25% will work.
