Okay, now that I'm past the scale pilot thing . . .

. . . does anyone know where I can pick up some scale instruments for a cockpit? Or am I left to my imagination?

Easiest think is to goto the web find companies that sell instruments they always show nice pics of them and copy them scale them and print them yourself. most instruments i have bought are nothing more than zerox images so why pay for something you can do yourself while sitting down at your puter hehe

You have a point, but if you don't want to go through all of the trouble of doing that you should look at what's available at HLI.

I used to be able to find and buy stuff like this 30 years ago. I didn't think anybody still made instruments like these. They are molded in black plactic with the knobs, screw heads, and bezels. They even come with the clear glass.

Why go through the trouble of building them if can buy them like this.

true if they have bezels and all its not bad but i been burned so many times by so called instruments that were nothing more than bad zerox copies. Maybe im just too picky but if i spend money on something i expect it to be at least good quality and most i get is crap. i think the worst hit I got was from dynamic balsa and their so called cockpit kits.

Check out the link I posted above. I ordered 2 sets of the 1/4 scale and 2 sets of the 1/5 scale for my Bud Nosen Citabria. I am really pleased with the way my panel turned out. The detail in the instrumentation was pretty good.

Joe,

I read your post on Dynamic Balsa cockpit kits and you say they are no good. Please let me know the details on your problems with their cockpits, I was just about to fork out $175.00 to them for a cockpit for a 01 Birddog for Vailly plans. If they are garbage, I'll buy elsewhere. $175.00 is a lot of $ for junk. :mad: Thanks for your help, Greg

Well I cannot say anything for their master series but their reg cockpit kits had basically instrument panel 2 side wall and chair with some crappy zeroxed instruments that you had to squint to see any detail on. the plastic was thin on the corners and scrunched on a few of them. nothing for control stick switches ar anything. I called them and complained and finally sent it back for a refund. they wanted to send me some pins for the switches etc but i told them the whole thing was cheap crap. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again on a different plane with same results so personally i cant see forking that kind of money out for their master kits if they cant even vaccuum form their reg kits properly so now i scratch all my cockpits i enjoy it better too but the kit helps with wall height and stuff which saves a lot of computations. also their kits i got didnt have floors in them either. i only paid 40 bucks for the kits but i paid that other places and got a lot better product.

maybe tomorrow or so someone will have had good luck with them i know the pics of the masters looks good but who knows how many hours someone put into it and scratched a lot of it to make it look good its just my opinion.
