Anyone know of a US disributor for the Anglia Models ??? They have a nice variety of scale kits.

You can order direct. I have built their Gladiator, and it was NOT an impressive kit. Wood selection was amongst the worst I have ever experienced, heavy where it should be light and light where it needed to be heavy. I wish I had just replaced just about everything.
These are the old Complete-a-pac kits, and they are mighty old. SOmething to keep in mind is that these designs date back to the early seventies or before, and what was considered good performance back then for a scale job, and what is considered good now, are two different things. Incidence angles and such may need to be changed.
I really want a Swordfish, and they have the only kit around, but I think I would rather build it from plans. In the long run, you will spend a few evenings cutting parts, but probably end up with a much nicer airplane.
I have not built any OTHER of their kits, just the one, but I was not that impressed.

Crappy kits, crappy instructions and they don't care about you or any questions relative to building, you might have.

Oh, but they will obligingly sell and ship you a kit

DONT BUY ONE!!!!!!!
These have to be the worst kits in the world.I am just finishing their Handley Page Harrow and i have replaced 95% of the wood the instructions are no good at all and the plans are very old.Instead look for a good plan and build from that.

I was being kind! All my thoughts are the same as above. Especially this...there are BETTER PLANS TO START FROM. The basic flyability of the kits is questionable. Yes, they will FLY, but they do not seem to perform within the modern context. They get around the patch, and that's about it. If you build one, zero everything out, for starters.

The plan supplied with the kit is not good at all and if built from that would end up VERY heavy.I basically did my own thing so that it ended up light(once i have finished covering it i will pop it on the scales)but its at least 3lbs lighter than it would have been had i stuck to the plan.
I am still worried about its flying qualities but i guess thats normal.
For GOOD plans have a look at the ones available from the rcmodeller magazine.

The Stringbag is exactly the one I was thinking of, too! And I am oftimes tempted to getting the damned Anglia kit...have to resist that impulse. And I think even the plans would be lacking. The Gladiator sure was. Basic design issues, especially on the weight side.
Don't know of another Swordfish plan, but I think there must be several in the Traplet catalog...excuse me, "catalogue"!

I think RC Scale International published a stringbag just recently, right around 90 size.

If this is the old Completa-pac lot, then I built one of the Stukas. I bought it back in the late 70's, when the cutting blades were sharp. Even so it was so awful, that it sat around for many, many years until about 6-7 years ago I mustered strength to tackle it. Dreadful, parts didn't fit, and admittedly this was a difficult subject with a lot of compound curves and few datum lines. It was not a pleasure, and thus it took me over four and a half years of going and coming back to the thing. Perserverence paid off, it looks pretty impressive, but the flying characteristics need some very skilled handling. More of a hanger queen and torch to tenacity than a flier. Ancient design, I'd try a much more modern one of the variant you want to try.

RC Scale International did indeed publish a Stringbag in the recent past. If memory serves it was an enlargement of the CAP plan! I'll see if I still have the mag.

Hi All
Try Traplet Publications <www.traplet.co.uk>who have plan no MW2113 for a 60" stringbag for .61 two strokes. Dont know the quality of this one but they do have quite a few scale plans.

I have seen in another thread that the Traplett plans are exactly the same as the ones in the Anglia kits. You've seen the quality of the design in several replies above. But they could be enough for a proficient scratchbuilder to produce an excellent airplane.

Did you see the HUGE stringbag at Toledo? That was impressive. Did it ever fly?

Traplet also has a 72 inch span Swordfish plan available which was the one that ran recently, in the Jan/Feb 2002 issue of SRCI. It is plan number MW2956 and runs about $27.00. Drop by www.traplet.com, you can probably order online.
