Hi Shafs :),

Not sure what scale your after, but I do a range of lightweight 12" pilots which are good for 1/5th to 1/6th.

These are based on the bbi/Dragon/21st century pilots, but specially lightened by hand for model aircraft, and I offer r/c heads as an option.

I can adjust the height a little, and even do bust only if required, again with the r/c option if desired.

I was looking for a US navy WW2 Pilot to put in my hanger9 Hellcat. It’s a 60 size model. The cockpit is about 90mm wide and 140mm deep.



I need something to fit this.

I used one of the pilots from Roy at Vailly Aviation for my Top Flite AT-6. I can't remember if I used the 1/9 or 1/8th scale, he has one that will fit your H9 Hellcat. I think the quality of his pilots is really good and you can get full body or just the top half.

I like the Williams Bros. pilots. They're inexpensive. You do the work on them (assemble, paint and detail). I realize there not as realistic as some other ones. However paying $30.00 to $60.00 for a dumb looking stiff to sit in the cockpit seems like overpayment to me. No matter how realistic, they just sit there! On the ground, the airplane would be seen with a pilot in it 2.24% of the time or less. The only time they are really needed is when the airplane is in the air and you can't see the whites of their eyes, then, anaways!

Not saying YOU shouldn't spend $40.00 to $80.00 for a "ready to fly" pilot, just saying I ain't gonna!

Mode one, I feel the same way. I went all out on a Elite Forces Luftwaffe "doll" to the pilot on my EIII. But I ended up only using the head, the flying helmet (modified), the jacket, the pants, and the hands. The rest I replaced with a cotton dummy.

It looked great but I don't think it was worth the expense. I'm seriously considering trying to sculpt my own in the future out of some Japanese "clay" that's really just paper and not much different (or heavier) than spit-wad material. :D

Either that or I'll buy a $3 GI Joe of eBay and cut off the head. I have to say though that I absolutely hate that Williams Bros pilot -- looks like a toy left over from the 40's.

I really like the Aces of Iron best so far. With a good paint job they almost come alive. Hollow and very light bust. I have one in my Platt Jungie.

And I absolutly hate the high prices of anything, but the Williams Bros pilots, or buying a G.I. Joe off Ebay! I think only the $80.00 arty-fish-all pilot is going to work for you Abu!

What we really all want, however is a 1/3rd, 1/4th 1/5th or 1/6th scale robot pilot, lathered up with Castor oil on spread specterm, 2.4 Jigga hertz who swaggers to the airplane, jumps into the cockpit, yells out "CONTACT", takes-off straight out, rolls inverted when the wing tips can clear the half roll and costs $5.74. I think we're two years away from this technology! Can you wait?

Hmm...just had an idea. GI Joe face down in some plaster of paris. Squish in some of that Japanese paper clay. Prime. Paint. Voila!

I bought a full body pilot from Pilot People. It was nicely made and light. Yes it was one of those "expensive" pilots. I think the price and what you get depends on what kind of model you want to put it in. I don't object on principle to spending $80 on a nice pilot if it enhances the plane. Scrimping $ on a pilot for a plane that cost $1,500 and has mountains of effort put into it seems like false economy. Still - I like the idea of making one instead. Just don't have the sculpting skills! I use the econo pilots for the econo planes! Same for wheels. I bought Herbie spoked wheels and they are very nice. Lots of people use baby carriage wheels, but they wouldn't look right on all planes.
