Aero-Auto
Back in the later 1950's there used to be a combo aeroplane and automobile produced.
This one had engine in rear of four wheeled auto that normally drove the rear wheels. A tail boom was attached that had a long extended shaft to drive a propeller (pusher mode). Then two wings held in place via a strut ending near to rear wheels. I understand there was a production line, but not many were built. I saw just the auto portion putting along here on local street. There was a fiberglass looking thingus over rear of this auto to hide the drive shaft and motor. What was true name to this unusual auto/aeroplane? There was also a three wheeled auto/aero but without a tail. Not interested in that one. Wm. |

Yep, except that the one I saw putting down the local street had a blue stripe too. Perhaps they all were basic yellow underneath.
Also saw an Amphi-car about ten years ago, but that is a different story too. Wm. |

There was one on display at the SeaTac airport, I believe it was part of the Seattle museum of flight collect at the time......it is a pretty tiny car......
There was another effort that mated a ford Pinto and the back end of a Cessna skymaster. Unfortunately, it was involved in a fatal crash, and the project was dropped..... |

I own and fly the only flying Taylor AEROCAR. The other four are in museums. EAA has one in Oshkosh, the 1949 prototype. Aviation Heritage Museum in St. Paul has one, The Museum of Flight in Seattle has the only Model 3 AEROCAR. The Fellings own an original Model 1 AEROCAR-- www.aerocarforsale.com.
