It breaks my heart but I will be missing it. Anyone within range should attend this event. Always a ton of fun.

Dave? You will not be at Mint Julip?!! Your planes are half the fun! Hopefully you will make Hoosiers in Muncie this fall. I have my 1/3 scale Sopwith Triple ready to chase you around this year.

When is it?

I go every year but haven't flown in it for 2 years. I have a TF P-47 that I have been flying but it has 2 cracks in the wing that must be repaired first.

I'll be there flying Team Scale with my brother in law's big Tiger Moth. Maybe the wind Gods will be kind like they were last year. <G>

The Mint Julep is one of the premier scale meets in the country. Kudos to the Southern Indiana RC Modelers club for their efforts and to the Kentucky Parks Department for the fine site.

We'll miss Dave Johnson , although he is excused from this one , right Dave ? <G>

Dave and Mary Beth are bringing home a new member of the family this week. He will be missed. Happy first Mothers Day.
The Mint will have a Mardi Gras Banquet Saturday night and It will have pilot door prizes also this year. Lots of prizes to win in each class. Great Bar B Q for lunch.
Pilots are coming from as far as Germany. This is one of the oldest and largest contests. But you will not find a more family friendly atmosphere on a beautiful Falls of Rough, Ky. State park.

Unfortunately Del Johnson and I will not make the event - I damaged Del's triplane this weekend trying to land it.

Some wingtip damage on the top wing, and some internal damage to the fuselage. All fixable, but not in time for the event.

Dave Johnson and wife Mary Beth are in Kumming China this week so they can bring home son Grahame.
Anyone with info about them after the earth quake please let us know. He is not responding to e mails and his last e mail was 5-5-08. They left the US on 5-1-08. They are to fly home 5-15-08. Any info will be a help.

How many showed up this year? Did everyone get to fly or was the wind to bad?

It was a record turn out for the Julep. 86 pilots registered.

The wind was brutal though. For the morning rounds on Sat and Sun. it wasn't too bad (well, early on anyway). Many fliers (including me) scratched the 2nd and 4th rounds because of the wind. Those conditions really separated the really good fliers from the average guys.

I didn't stick around to see what the final standings were, so hopefully someone will post those.

A great time thought, and well worth the trip and effort. I'll get some more pics up sometime soon hopefully. But here's one of Greg Hahn's great B-17 coming in for a landing. As I said, the wind was brutal and unpredictable. Cross (most of the time) and very gusty. Guys like Greg made it look easy though. A few planes were torn up unfortunately.

Alright guys, I didn't get to go this year so post pictures of your planes.

Gary Allen and I took first in Team Scale with the big Tiger Moth. Second in Team was the Rawdon T1 built by Charles Baker and flown by Ron ( I think) Karg. Third in Team was the Ziroli P38 flown by Eric Alford and I didn't catch the builder's name. I believe Mike Barbee won the "other" Expert Division with his big Waco.

Tough wind conditions for sure , and unfortunately , a fair amount of carnage as a result.

Maybe Dale Arvin or a member of SIRCM can post the full results.

A very good thing was the record number of entries , and a lot of new faces.

1st time to Mint Julep had a great time, little windy and had to catch a flight back to Dallas so I could not fly the 4th round. So next year I'll have a later flight.

RE: Mint Julep

As a first time participant at the Mint Julep I would like to say thanks for a fun day. I was only there for one flight on Saturday, but man it was fun. I didn't do all that good on my flight, but I did manage to go home with the same number of pieces I got there with, that alone made it worth while. The wind was just a little out of my comfort zone. I think the guys that flew the second round on Saturday were surely more confident in their skills than I am in mine. I will definitely be back next year, and hopefully will be a little more prepared. I would like to get to some more contests between now and then though. Any ideas?? By the way, Thanks Mike (Lucky Dog) for letting me freeload under your canopy, won't happen again next year...
