Old Flying Models article
Thought I'd try this one out here -
I would like to find a copy of a Flying Models article or write-up from 1976, I think June but not 100% sure - where there is a write up on the late Bob Nelitz's (sp?) FAI Scale winning DH Chipmunk. I would like to get a copy in presentable enough condition, i.e. a very good scan or beg/purchase the mag itself, so that it can be framed up and displayed near the model itself in a local museum. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out, or suggest a better way to get my hands on what I'm after. MJD |

RE: Old Flying Models article
ORIGINAL: Lake Flyer Try Model Aviation July 1977 It may be that is what I am looking for after all - I thought it was in FM but could easily be mistaken. Thanks! MJD |

I don't know if you are aware of this, but the latest issue of Flying Scale Model (of the UK) features a build of a super-scale DH Chipmonk and well as some detail sketches. You can also order plans and even a short kit.

Wow. Model Aviation came through big time - they first sent me a scan, but I was really hoping for something worthy of display and asked how to find an original. Two days later a clean copy of July 77 arrived in the mail. Thank you AMA/Model Aviation!
I was looking over the model yesterday and it is really magnificent. There are a couple of tears in the wing, and I was delighted to find that Mr. Nelitz had thoughfully provided the details of the paint mixtures he used. Might still be a job matching up perfectly, but we'll have a go. Assuming I can find the products.. you might see me back here again whining :). MJD |

The years 76-77 old?
Yeap, I'm[X(] getting old... been flying RC for 5-6 years by then. Ah.. the ol' Chipmunk. I have 13 hours of Air Experience, all done about the age 14 in the Air Force Cadets. Wonderfull time, bucket seat, 'chute dangleling between you legs, control column infront of my face. I was small, couldn't see out of the canopy side... even sitting on the chute! An experience. As was vomiting into a standard RAF rubber mask during aerobatics... and the, having to swallow it back down. The RAF pilots where very kind to us young boys by the ground crew killed anyone who vomited into the aircraft! Of course the pilots had great fun trying to make this happen. |
