RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
Chris, I really enjoy the pics you continue to post. Has this been a very difficult kit to build thus far? I have one ordered myself now, and I have learned a lot from following along with your posts. How are things coming along? Keep the pics coming.

RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
Construction for the rear deck took place today, and was able to modify the rear deck to accommodate the jets. Built the cabinets on the after deck, and cut-out the aft deck. I decided that the rear deck should be removable so servicing the jets is possible. I made the after deck in two pieces and used the transom as the hard point where the deck can be bolted down. I placed some masking tape on the top of the transom to use as a dam, and added about 1/8" additional resin the inside of the transom while the boat was on end, which made the transom a little thicker, and also sealed up the jet output holes. I then added three hardpoints made from blocks, and installed threaded inserts in the blocks. The screws that will hold down the deck are countersink hex screws which will blend in nicely to the deck. Next cut the aft deck to fit, which will be permanently attached to the transom.

RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
Got in some build time this week, and started on the finish decks for the bow and stern. First I had to build the bow sheers, by trimming them, then gluing in place. Then the most tedious part was fitting the front finish deck. I decided to trim and fit the deck before I made any plank scribing on it. Directions say otherwise, but I'm not one for directions anyway. I got a rough shape by placing a piece of paper across the bow, and using a pencil, scribbling across the ends of the bow sheers, and hull sides. This made a distinct edge marking that I was able to cut out, and trace onto the finish deck. Trimming and fitting of the deck took about 4 hours, but I wanted to take my time, and get it to fit exactly! After the bow deck was complete I moved onto the stern. Again same thing...lots of trial and fit. Not as bad as the bow, but the stern still took a good 3 hours for the two pieces. As stated before, I am modifying the stern deck to suit the jet drives that have been installed, which means two deck pieces, and moving the hot tub to the bow. After the finish decks were fitted, I moved onto the fitting and marking the lounge at the bow. I used a compass to mark the location of the new circular hot tub, and will be cutting this out with a hole-saw. I am still searching for a suitable hot tub, as the one that came with the kit is oval. I was able to find a sink for the stern cabinets by using a single piece of a blister pack from a package of Eclipse gum. This will fit nicely when painted silver, and recessed into the countertop.
That's all for now...Enjoy the photos.

Hi Chris,
what type of radio will you be using for your TIME? Also what are you thinking as far as the jets goes? Are you going to
make them autonomous or will they be linked together at the same speeds?
What radios is everyone else using for a project this size that will allow for all the basics as well as remote control of
the search lights, etc?

RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
The aveox motors are really left over from a previous project, a ducted fan A10 Thunderbolt, that I have not finished yet, so I am going to put the motors to good use while that model is still on the bench. Yes I did have to buy an adapter flange from Kehrer for their jets, but the cost was minimal, and you can't beat good German craftsmanship.
I am going to also use the radio that was slated for the A10 as well. It's an Airtronics R6000 or something. I like because you can program servo mixing from the transmitter. This will help with the dual engine setup, as I only want one stick for throttle. Reverse will be controlled by a separate on/off channel. The jets will be linked together for steering, and the rest of the radio channels will go towards accessories.
Almost finished with sealing and finishing the wood surfaces in preparation for paint. I will post photos soon.

Here are some more photos showing the finish decks in place, which have been stained and "planked". Also shown are the jet drive steering nozzles and reverse buckets. Almost ready for paint!

RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
Hey there.
Not sure about the weedeater engine. I haven't found anyone over here making those jets though. But I just ordered a pair from Kehrer and received them last week. Took only about 7 days to get everything delivered. Easy for me to order from them, it helps being bi-lingual. But notice on their website on the top left hand corner there is a US/UK flag. Click there and the whole thing will be in english.
Their whole ordering process was great. I placed the order, chose Paypal as method of payment, they sent me the invoice, I transferred money straight in Euros (Paypal will do the conversion for you). I actually just placed another order with them this week because of their great service and pricing. The initial order comes with their full color catalog and a DVD with clips of all their boats and jet drives. I was very impressed that a "small" shop like Kehrer has all their stuff so together.

RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
Hi jerni21 ,
I´d like to paint the 2CV´s as on the originals on the “Timeâ€.
I have already removed the body with engine and the contacts + sold them in EBAY.
Before that I made a new base onto whith I fixed the axles.
The parts can be separated from the body if you are careful, they are not glued but melted.
After painting the parts can be glued back on.
Have fun building your “TIMEâ€
Best regards
and all boat-fans a happy new year

RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
I am building a primetime also. My experience tells me that before you attach the deck,, ( which is really nice looking by the way ) the superstructure needs to be primed and painted. Given the wood being a bit rough, it took me quite a few times to prime and sand to actually get it really smooth for the white paint. Beautiful work by the way. Ill post pics shortly for you guys.

I am modifying a Dauntless for Grapner water jets. Do any of you jetters plan on adding a screen of any type over the intakes?

RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
Very cool stuff. Can you guys post some closeup shots of your jet steering mechanism? I am having a bit of a challenge since my deck runs pretty low
and I am looking for inspiration on how other people setup their servos and steering for the jets.
Thanks

RE: First Dumas Prime Time kit
Well, I've used, rods and cables for steering. The all yellow boat with two servos is a bit different, I'm using one for a nozzle and one for the steering, so the placement is weird.
