While going through the list, one of many interesting things that popped out was a line for a "Portable Windshield for forward cockpit". I wonder what that looked like? Any ideas?

I like the hunt for all the missing pieces to this vessel. It adds to the fun and the history is interesting.

Hi Rich;
The forward folding windshield and the bridge folding windshield are shown on this Dauntless plan although they are pretty vague. Knowing how you research data, you most likely have better views.

Hi 12 Skipper,

That is a decent side illustration. It would be cool to find out how it looked wrapped around the half round cockpit and folded down. On page 6 i posted a pic of LSR and his buddies making the film. If you look carefully toward the bow, it shows something flat over the cockpit that is not a cover. It looks like you would have a hard time just jumping in there. It is still vague how it would look lifted. I wonder if the windshield folded down into sections then would be lifted and secured into place in order to sit.. Or was it one piece? HMMMM..

Bill??

Would anyone happen to know Dauntless's scale speed based on the full sized original Weight, Speed and Horsepower?

Full sized original specs:

66' long 62' LWL

30,000 LBS

2 WWII Surplus Packard Engines 1,350HP Each 2,700HP total.

40+ Knots to 50 MPH

Thank you!

Dear Captains,

Recently, i obtained 2 pics of Dauntless's profile on the starboard side. It definitly unraveled some questions i had in modeling her. The side aft cabin profile shows the windows were not perfect square as as depicted on another pic on this site, but as S&S has her profiled in their drawings. The angle captured in the other pic made them look square. Lennoxman nailed this one as far as modeling goes! The windows are still proportioned with the vents. (I never had the vents when i purchased this boat, so i went back and ordered 4 from dumas for $0.65 each. I will probably make my own, but may use them for sizing. Well see..) It also shows her watercooling & exhaust blasting out towards the top of the transom on both left and right sides, similarly to that of a PT boat. This definitly gives this yacht a bold statement when underway! Something to really consider for those interested in engine/motor water cooling. Looks awesome!

Dauntless also had a flagpole with flag in place off the stern as well.

I will share them soon!

Lennoxman, so far, this is the best i can do as far as manipulating this pic for JPEG. i had to do this from an actual small photo. If i can get this better, i will repost. But hopefully, you can see some detail in this post.

I know that a pics like this is long awaited by us Dauntless Fans.

I feel mathematically challenged today, but here's the formulas

For the power:
Power real = Power model x scale^3.5

For speed :
Speed real = Speed model x scale^0.5

For torque :
Torque real = torque model x scale^4

For revolutions :
Revolutions real = revolutions model x scale^-0.5

Excellent find, Rich!

Dang, you weren't kidding about the water shooting from the transom [X(]. Guess it wouldn't be a good idea to pull a buddy on a tube with a short rope behind the Dauntless .

The Dumas kit comes with a couple of round exhaust ports in the cast metal fittings bag. But the diagrams are of course vague on what they are or what to do with them so many modelers are left scratching their heads (I was one of them). I've seen all sorts of creative alternative uses for these pieces.

Lennoxman,

I guess we now know where those exhaust ports go now! lol.

We can also see why there is no swimming platform over there either. lol.

I have also concluded that the 2 ladders in the back of Dauntless never existed, but were actually modelled after the 2 ladders that were inside the aft cabin forward and aft.

Also, i still have no evidence of a hatch over the main cabin. It actually fits the description of the sliding hatch that would go over the door that leads into the main cabin from the Bridgedeck. The S&S drawing does not show a hatch inside that area but shows the hatch opening over the door instead. (See Pic) Dumas probably thought it was a good idea to move the hatch forward over the main cabin because it looked good there and many modellers would not opt for opening doors/hatches to the interior. I could be mistaken, but it seems otherwise. I will not seal up that hatch until i get stronger evidence of it's non existance. I will continue to look into that.

Here is the main cabin pic

Lennoxman,

I'm sure wakeboarding would be a blast behind Dauntless if you had a long enough rope!!!!! Dauntless has the speed, power and wake for an awesome session. Just don't wipe out!!

The rubber tube idea is a classic way to quickly sober up that guy laid out on the back of your yacht! A drenching hellride....

Dear Dauntless Captains,

Here are some pics of the inside of the Bridgeshelter top as i sculpt the inner corners to accept the curved plexiglass. During this process, i removed a piece of long thin ply that was used during the initial construction thus giving me more area to work. Also, i gave the area a coat of epoxy to add additional strength. When i am done sanding and tweeking, i am going to mount 1/8" piece of mahogony to the ceiling creating a slot to fit and hold the form of the plexiglass.

Hello Jungs,
thanks for the welcome greetings.

Unfortunately one does not see as many Dumas-boats here in Europe on the water.
I wanted something other once, not always these boxes<A[boxes|cases]> of Robbe or Graupner!!
Therefore a lot also my choice onto the Dauntless.
It<A[It|She]> is not, however, ready in the finish yet

I have also still the Mr.Darby im Project

Greetings from Berllin,
Andreas

Hi Marty;
I thank you fellows for the photos! How long is the run time with your Dauntless? I have not worked on my Dauntless for over a month since my wife broke her hip. I hope to get her home this week then I will get back to the shop. Keep up the good work and please keep the photos coming.

Chuck,

I dont have a good estimate because I am running slow sometimes and fast other times. I should calculate it sometimes at a constant speed. I am using 2 whopper battery packs with plenty of juice to start your car.

Each motor has it's own Sanyo KR500 High Capacity 10 cell (12v) 5000mAh nicad battery pack from MPI. I purchased these batteries from a local guy that sold his Dumas Donzi for 1/2 price. The replacement cost at $11.50 a cell was over $200 I would have never have paid that much for them new but wow does that boat cook. The boat is heavy and it still planes out just right. I also run the boat off a 12v lead acid battery from Radio Shack for 15 bucks.

I am currently building my second Donzi with the same power package since both boats are so big.

Great build, Andreas, thanks for the pictures.

Well, thankfully my Dauntless just completed a 1,000 mile trip in the back of a U-Haul without being bounced into splinters.

Now having three parks with ponds nearby, I'll have her back in the water soon. I'm guessing after a run or two, I'll finally be motivated to mount those upgraded motors I bought almost a year ago!

I'll snap pics and post 'em here soon.
