CsChuck14,
That's one way, another is to buy a kit designed specifically for RC, doesn't really matter is it's scale or not. If it's big enough to cram all the 'stuff' inside, and it floats, you can make almost anything RC. Such as... - 'Doc |

Hi Chuck,
If you've got a jigsaw and a steady hand, I could mail you the plan of my Italian, stepped, M.A.S (Motoscafi Anti Sommergibile) to get you started on scratchbuilding. Let me know. Jan. |
RE: Model boats
I look for plastic models with a length of around 14" or more and convert them using $10.00 R/C cars from Walgreens, the range is kind of short but I run them in my pool so no problem.

RE: Model boats
I am currently working on converting the Revell Schnellboote to R/C. I have placed the drive line in, but made the mistake of making it only single propped. I have my combat E-Boat as a twin screw so that I do not get a torque lean in the boat. I forgot about that when I started the Revell kit, so I have started to tear that drive line out so that I may replace it.
I will be using a set of small Maxon motors for the drive. They will develope 4000RPM's under load with 4.8V's. The speed control will be the Quantum from Orian. More to come as it developes, way too many projects at this time.:( |
RE: Model boats
cool, im about to buy a chris craft 13 inches, and convert it using a s280 and greatplanes esc all for about 90 bucks. i think its cheaper to convert a static display, cause the boats that are made for rc are about 100 dollars more

RE: Model boats
Is your Chris Craft the Revell re issue kit ? if so I think the 280 is going to be too much motor. I have the kit and it's pretty small.

RE: Model boats
I have the (reduced) plan of the sixties Graupnermodel Chris Craft Holiday, have not had the time to build it yet.

RE: Model boats
hello all :D
I am very new to the wonderfull (and very expensive) hobby of RC boats. what i am doing at the moment is converting the revell 1/72 schnellboote. I have added the prop shafts and rudder posts (all three) and have bought a micro RC system am now buying HPI RS4 micro motors. and here is where i hit the hard part what MICRO ESC can i use to run the motors. I would like reverse capability. thank you in advance for any help |
RE: Model boats
You can use standard size servos with the geartrain removed and you get a motor and built in speed control with reverse all for the price of a cheap servo, you can also Y harness 2 together and get differential thrust.
