OB Motor

Tried but failed on another thread to find out board motor for scale project.

3 or 4 hp will do [ but 5 or 6 is better ] as boat will be over 4' long.

Responses will be greatly appreciated.

bankrupt,
I can certainly be mistaken, but I think your guesstimate of horsepower is slightly too much. An electric motor of 3 to 4 hp will weigh in the neighborhood of 10 to 50 pounds and require a battery that's even heavier. Most electric motors used in modeling are a small fraction of a horse power. What type of boat is it?

Sorry. Should have indicated that I'm thinking gas. Looking at a scale pontoon boat with carpet and painted rails to mirror my Playbouy "Fish N Fun". Torque is needed as she'll never get up and plane. Also, convertible [ removable ] rigging as a rescue boat for my other RC boats is being considered.

You might want to look at the larger K&B outboards, a Zen powered one will really look out of place on a 4 foot pontoon boat and be really heavy. R Manufacturing/Lawless is the only one that I know of currently making a Gas outboard.

This is a 4 year-old thread. The company is out of business and has been for a while. His boats were overpowered and were only good for barely straight-line runs as they spent most of their time in the air.
