PBR MKII
I’m currently in the process of building a 1/6th scale PBR MKII river patrol boat. I am taking plans purchases from Taubmans plan and I also purchases a Tamiya 1/35 scale plastic kit and transferring all the information to 3D CAD to mill molds from.
The problem is the planes have inside little detail. Does anyone know of a better source for drawings, pictures ect? I have the hull in CAD and the cockpit. Will post picture in future. |

Thanks kmot. these were very good sites.
I'm going to the machine shop tomorrow to talk about machining the hull mold for the PBR. |

RE: PBR MKII
Moya,
Neat project you have there! Where do you run your boats? Are you in the North Dallas Club? I'm in Fort Worth (not right now) and am always looking for places to run scale models... |
RE: PBR MKII
Ron,
I'm not in any club at the moment. I was a member of the north Texas model shipwrights for many years; they run on two small lakes in Dallas. One is off I35 and the other is of North 75 Central expressway. I don't recall the exact locations. I live in the mid cities and run my electric boats in area ponds. This PBR will be my first gas boat. I know of a club in Dallas that runs on a lake just North of Mikes Hobbies shop on I35. I believe the lake is in some sort of state park. I drove by the place about a mount ago but did not go in. They were having some kind of celebration and the place was packed. What kind of boats do you run? I would like the see you fleet. |
RE: PBR MKII
I don't really have a fleet yet, I'm mostly an RC airplane guy. But I do run boats sometimes with the Shipwrights club you mentioned. I have a quite old Dumas 40'CG boat, a discontinued Thor kit I'm half thru, and another model in the box. My interest in boating is mostly for scale electric, although years back, I scaled up from Scale Ship Modeler plans, a 6 ft long PT boat for gas. Good luck with your PBR - it should be pretty neat. Remember - STAY IN THE BOAT!... (Apocalypse Now)[8D]

RE: PBR MKII
Funny you mentioned "Apocalypse Now" I have been using the movie to get details on the boat. I plan on having the mold cut some time this month if the vendor is available. I need to buy some MDF and glue up a 70" x 28" x 9" solid block. I will also make a block for the deck and cockpit.
The machine shop is trading there machine time for my CAD time. So I'm at there mercy. As for planes, I work with planes all day long. Love them, but can fly them. My RC plane story is one of HARD landings (don’t like the word CRASH) with hours of repair. Never lost a boat and the most I do with the old one is fix a loose part and repaint. I also have an 8' 1/10 scale PT boat I purchases as a kit from a company that advertised in SSM. They are no longer in business. My kit is almost finished, but kids came along and all spare time went to them. Now, kids are older and time to finish that bad boy. |
RE: PBR MKII
does anyone have the plans or hull deck for a pbr and pcf from the brown water navy
I served with them in vietnam and built a 1/6 atc and a m132 apc |
RE: PBR MKII
Are there any wooden kits of these models anywhere? Ive been looking but can only find the 1/35 from tamiya. thanks

Not wood, but fiberglass semi kit from Frank's Mosquito Boat Hobbies. I built this 1/12 scale from his kit.
