the ultimate scale model collection

scale down to power, engine order response time, depth of water (to simulate shallow water effects) rudders, everything. used for training pilots and captains, someday i hope to make it to that level and utilize something like this for my training. their tug models are kind of what my model is aspiring to be- semi realisitc, but more functional model.

RE: the ultimate scale model collection

There was a proposal to build a similar facility here in Oregon using one of the reflection ponds near the old Trojan Power plant on the Columbia River. I even put a bid in to build the tug boats. And I know the backer even got bids from another builder for the tankers and cargo ships.

However after the lease on the property seemed like it was locked down, the whole proposal disappeared. I think part of it was the fact that the backer was not prepared for even just the costs of the ships. When I made inquiries into the lease, and the backer last year,... Absolutely no one seemed to want to talke about it.

I had heard that Sogreah had been one of the possible lessors, but at some point gave way to the person to whom I submitted constuction bids. Knowing Sogreah's background, I was disappointed that they did not further pursue the property lease, and constuction of the facility.

It looks like you have some great plans for your tug.

RE: the ultimate scale model collection

a little of both. going to sea has been a family thing, although my father and my uncles did not. from my grandfathers back it always was what "you did." im a junior at the contry's best maritime academy, and have gotten the majority of my seatime on tugboats. i've been on and around them since i was 12 or 13. i'll most likely operate tugs or offshore supply vessels after i graduate until i find a nice desk job in the marine business, or get connected well enough to train to become a pilot.

the navy did have a "manned model" setup in florida or texas, although it wasnt as good as port revel. the models are now at mass maritime, definately an inferior academy to mine :)
