Correct pt 109 structs.
I have seen two different types of struts on pt 109 boats, could anyone tell me the correct, true to scale type, thanks, Randy.

RE: Correct pt 109 structs.
There were several different types and manufacturers of PT boats. Which "specific" PT are you building? Is it in fact PT-109? Then you must look for pics of PT-109 during WWII because after the war and for Kennedy's inauguration and for the movie they used a different type boat.

RE: Correct pt 109 structs.
The PT-109 was an early war 80 foot Elco. If you can find any pictures of an early war elco, the struts should be the same.
Just did a little more research and found the boat to be a PT-103 class Elco. Hope that gives you a little more to go on. |

You will need to get pictures of the Elco, not the Higgins from them if possible.

RE: Correct pt 109 structs.
Both of those PT Boats are at Battleship Cove, MA. I spent a fair amount on a donation to get aboard them and take pictures for my Dumas '48 PT that I was building. After about 200 pictures in the Elco I started to realize that those boats aren't correct and asked. Those are simple mockups of what they should look like, not historically accurate.
Good rough outlines but not correct. |
