Help me with a new ship
I am constructing a Adams Class destroyer. She should be about 4 feet long. I have no idea what types of motors to place in her. She shall have 2" screws. I would like to have two motors one for each screw, just like the real one. I have found out I will also have problems finding a transmitter that will have two throtles. I would like to at least achieve scale speeds (30 knots) Any sugestions Ben |
RE: Help me with a new ship
Who makes the model? You can run two motors with a single stick but there are duel throttle transmitters out there, the name of the manufactors escapes me at the moment.

Ben,
Two seperately controled motors means two ESCs and two channels for throttles. Plus the other channel for the rudder and you have three channels required. It won't be the same as having dual throttles on the same 'quadrant' but you can do the controlling by using both 'sticks' of a 4 channel radio, for instance. Up/down both sticks for throttle and left/right on one stick for rudder. There are a couple of 'dual throttle' radios but you're talking about a sort of 'high end' radio sy$tem. Expense is relative, so that's up to you. The 'cheap-n-dirty' method is to just parallel the two motors on one ESC/throttle. 30 knots, depending on the scale of the boat isn't gonna be all that fast, so shouldn't be that difficult. Have fun. - 'Doc |

2" props on a destroyer of that size seems a bit too large. If you don't already have the props, I would consider something around 1.25" or 1.5, certainly nothing bigger than 1.5".

Single most important queston : What scale?

LtDoc,
Kinda lost track of you. When the weather clears (if ever) I would like to see your ships in action. I did try to send you an E-mail, received no answer back. I was having trouble with my internet service, so I didn't know If the e-mail got sent or not. Ben |
RE: Help me with a new ship
whoops, measure twice and cut once. I seem to have measured once and cut twice. I just grabed the props out of the box and measured them. They are 1.75" in diameter. These were furnished in the Kit. Anyway back to my question, what size motors, do I need gear reduction, RPM of props?
