Cabin Windows
I am coming up to a point I fear most in my construction.....installing windows. Some I want with a very heavy tint and some I want clear or just a slight tint. Any suggestions for materials and how to secure those materials?
thanks in advance. |
RE: Cabin Windows
Secure with Canopy glue as used by the flying People , and you may be able to get a tin of spray tint as used by full size car people ,do it on the inside and the number of coats the darker or go to a custom car place and see if they have any ofcuts of the window film, they have it in different shades just put it on with a bit of soapey water and a sqeegey or a credit car (worn)

The Brown PVC has a nice tint to it...
It is a Midwest Styrene, or Super Styrene product... http://www.midwestproducts.com/catal...d=19&sa2_id=21 The SDM tug is glued, using canopy glue, up against balsa painted white... The Fire boat is cemented behind the window frames... and you can see through it.. The Tito Neri, Minyamo, windows are clear styrene painted black behind... |

Whats wrong with Acrylic? Any local plastics place should have both Gray and Bronze tints. Call and ask if they carry 2074 (dark) or 2064 (light) "smoked" acrylic. If you want that heavy-tint look with no one being able to see in, Black 2025 is perfect as well.

Something else you might try is taking a walk through a few 'department' stores, looking at the packaging, not what's inside it. Lots of interesting possibilities, some of that stuff is strong enough for hulls, much less windows. Plastic folders in the 'school/office' departments, bakery, dry-goods, who knows? Odd shapes, toy department. Really odd 'looks', women's department! And with that, I'll quit.

I heard somewhere that using 35mm film is good for the dark tint look. Hummmm... I may have to try that one myself.
