That sucker is huge. Bigger then mine. At 55 1/2" long. Working on two of these.

Does everything included in the kit. Such as the superstructure, and guns and such.

The ship is 64 inches long. It does come with everything such as the structures, fittings, and weapons. The fittings and weapons are ok but you have to clean them up a bit. The helo I made from a plastic kit. The hull is a wood, plank on frame. I have enjoyed building it. I have kept a build log on it and so far I have 53 hours invested on it.

hey larryds
dose the guns come with it ,what else do you have to get,and motor and battery size? thanks

Larryds 02-26-2008 08:09 PM

RE: USS Wainwright Build

It comes with a 5 inch deck gun. You have to buy the motors and electronics. They give you the stuffing tubes and shafts. The shafts were aluminum but I chose to replace them with steel shafts. The motors are two 12volt motors powered by a 12volt battery.

hi larryds
been look at the ship the information said it is 68 1/4 long and do you have to have the radar dome on the bottom or can it be build with out it is there a lot of room insde i plan on using 2 motors and two 12volt gellcells and what is a helo ?is that the radar on the bottom ? any tips on the frame up thanks rye

Larryds 02-28-2008 01:02 PM

RE: USS Wainwright Build

Rye, the radar dome can be left off but then the ship would not be scale. The full size ship has a dome. It comes with the kit, all you have to do is epoxy it on, then bondo it up. Helo is short for helicopter. There is plenty of room inside, the ship is long so your compents can be spaced out. I will have a sound system in mind in a few weeks. The frame up is straight and simple. Just line it up correctly and keep it straight. Not any tougher then any other build.

Boats coming right along Rye. Couldnt do much soldering this weekend, my soldering iron was broken. Got a new one from my dad. I will put up pictures tonight when I get home. Hook up one of the esc and motors this last weekend and it ran fine. Need to solder the connections, install the side railings and she will be ready to sail. Hope to have her ready to sail in two or three weeks. Been keeping track of my build time and so far I have a 124 hours on her. Did you also order the Belknap? Its a fun build.

rye,

Got the bugs worked out of my electrical problem, had a minor problem with one shaft. Should have that cleared up tomorrow. Hope to have the maiden in a week or two. I will have the deck and all the fittings done tomorrow also. Going to order some railings for the side of the ship next month as well as the sound system. I will get some pictures up tomorrow I hope. Working on a transportation crate now. The helicopter is a plastic kit I bought, I think its 1/72 scale. Not sure. Cost like $5. What ship are you going to name your cruise after?

Larry
