Boat recommendations
I'm an airplane builder, but was thinking of building a boat to mess around with when we floatfly, or at times when it's too windy to fly.
What I want is something rather challenging to build, somewhere in the 3 to 4 foot long range, either a tug or something military. I'd prefer a fiberglass hull or wood planking over ribs, as little plastic as possible (if a tug). I've looked at the wood version PT-109 (33") and the Carl Moran Tug (would prefer the hull be wood on this one) I want the boat capable of R/C conversion and would build it from the beginning with that in mind. Complexity is not an issue. Who are the best mfg in terms of quality and detail? Thanks, Ken |
RE: Boat recommendations
If you want challenging yet SATISFYING, quality, and IMPRESSIVE, look to models like Robbe's Happy Hunter, or anyhing from Caldercraft, Model Slipway, or Mountfleet http://www.mountfleetmodels.co.uk/boston-typhoon.htm.
If you want inexpensive, challenging AND frustrating, there are others that I won't name here... Pat M |
RE: Boat recommendations
I went from building planes to building boats. Mind was the Dumas PT109. Challenging but a good build. Learn a lot. Fun boat.
