FMS-based RC-sub Sim!

Hi guys,

Having been toying with the FMS RC-airplane simulator software, FMS stands for Flying-Model-Simulator, and is a freeware that can be downloaded to practice RC-flying. Seeing that people can make their own virtual airplanes and making them work on the game, I think I can figure out a way to make RC-subs work! Right now I'm using a software named Metasequoia to create the 3D models used in the simulator, once this is done, I can start with the process of programming and designing this thing. I've never used CAD to make 3D models but they say that Metasequoia works in almost the same way. I hav eno experience in computer programming but I think I've got a pretty good start don't you think? :)

Here are some pics of the current progress:

Overall view of the model, I've just finished the conning tower last night.

Front view, as you can see, the section below the waterline hasn't been done yet, I'm currently working on getting the conning tower right and the saddle tanks on the right shape.

More to come soon!
:D

Thanks resle!

Actually I don't find the program to be very hard, just a lot of typing this and that, numbers, Xs and Ys, plus Zs.... ok, just a lot of things to do!:D:D Anyways, just finished setting up the conning tower and I can say that I'm happy with the results! Take a look for yourself:

Overall, I absolutely love the finished wintergarden!

Stern shot of the conn, I've decided to make this one a standard Type VIIC turm, here you can see more of the wintergarden in detail.

Another stern shot, looking above the wintergarden, the 20mm AA gun is yet to be "manufactured"!:D

Here's how it looks "mounted" on the model.

Side view of the model, saddle tanks yet to be completed, model sitting at waterline.

U-boat from the stern, another shot.

That's all for now, I will you guys posted with the progress!

A few more progress made along the way, I had a hard time fixing and shaping the saddle tanks, so that slowed down the process a bit. Lengthened the bow a little bit to fit with the overall setting. Also, you can see that I've continued on the lower hull, the U-boat is now taking shape!:D Also added the deck riggings, I've just started the deck gun barrel as well.

So there's just one picture for now, I've hidden the barrel so you can see more of the boat:

More updates to come.

That's just really, really cool. Awesome, Nemo ! Love it! [8D]

How did you get interested in subs, Nemo? Was it strictly R/C or before you got into R/C?

Hello Crunchy and thanks for the comments!

Hum... good question, it all started when i picked up a copy of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, I just loved Captain Nemo (hence the name ), it's probably the first and one of the best submarine novels there is! Of course, dues to my modelling instincts, I began building a model of the Nautilus (the RC version didn't work too well :(). I don't want to give you my life story here, it will bore you with all the details :D. I learned about RC-Subs through various internet sites (didn't know that forums such as this existed back then) and I'm now into WWII U-boat research and modelling, I just think that U-boats are one of most coolest marvels of engineering and I'm currently in the process of building my very own U-boat model.
