Telephone poles as found in the Ardennes, circa 1944-45
Next up in my occasional series of cheap and cheerful battlefield props:
Real simple one for you:
Get a bag of 4 "Smorstix" Marshmallow roasting sticks next time you are in your local grocery store (in my case Kroger, price $1.99). Failing that 1/4" wooden dowel rod will work - its rather skinny when you scale it back up but it looks ok and costs ~$1 per pole, so just hang in there with me ?
Cut them off at 46cm (18") long (roughly 22ft @ 1/16 scale is 40cm, I've added another couple of inches for pushing into the ground), and cut the first tie at 22mm long. Drill and pin the first tie - I'm using paper clips as a source of wire for this - as shown, secure it all with a dab of superglue. Drill and pin the tops together, dab superglue as necessary. Cut the 2nd tie to suit, and drill and pin, superglue blah blah.
You should now have something like this:
Now lightly sand off any excess glue, as this will show up in the next operation otherwise...
Apply a couple of coats (1 day apart) of dark wood stain. Bend some panel pins to form the wire connections - but don't use the ones I used, because they are crap and break when you bend them. Drill holes for them, rather than hammering them in, to avoid splitting your handy work.
You now have this (well, minus the 21st Centuary 1/18 Panther anyway...):
Happy Tanking!

Oh now that is great!!!
It is the little details like that, that makes it! I would have never thought about telephone poles, but you know what? A detail like that shows the builder knows his stuff.
A fine fine post!!
