Default Large Tank search Help pls

Hello Guys ,

I am new to the Large tank hobby and would like to get somehelp about 1:8 scale tanks please.

I now have few Tamiya tanks they are nice but only 16 scale .

I dont know if I can build one from scratch so my question is what is the most affordable way to get into a larger scale tank ?

Is there any good forums perhaps a good used tank I can find ?

thank you

They are expensive and require a lot of work. I want one!

Here's one place I've been checking out.

There are quite a few companies producing large scale tanks. One is steel dragons that I know come as a static kit, but can be converted to rc. Another is Armortek, andanother Mark-1 tank. The latter are quite expensive but then again, any of them become expensive rather quickly. I have looke into them recently and would someday like to build one, but the cost is somewhere in the area of 2000-4500 USD when all is said and done. Of course, some can end up costing much more depening on what you want in it. Good luck and let us know what you decide on!

thanks guys ,

I have access to some machining but If I could start with a good 8 scale static model and tracks I can get the motors and drive train myself.

dont have 4000 to spend , family to feed comes first.

Who has deals on static models ??

Any used forums out there anyone can link me to ??? There must be some used tanks for sure.

Merry Christmas to all !!!!!!!

Hey Brother Easy,I understand your wanting a 1/8 scale, but to be honest $4000 will get you started . . .maybe. The sound system alone is going to be way up there in price.

However I do not want to discourage you. This might be what you are looking for http://www.steeldragons.net/

Best

Once you have the 1/8 scale u will probably be disappointed, soon you'll want to move upscale to 1/6th...so u should get 1/6th straight away

I think I will be fine with an 8 scale . the 6 is too big and too heavy too.

I am set on a Bradley which I think is a 6 scale anyways .

so who has the best valued kit on the market ??

I have been running my 1/8 R/C Armory King Tiger for over a year now and can highly recommend them. There as tough as nails and should give you years worth of trouble free running. The technology and engineering put into these models is terrific and is bested only by the likes of Armotek in my opinion which are many times the price.

I was in the same boat as you wanting something larger than a 1/16 but also something manageable that would fit into the back of most cars and not require 2 people to lift (although mines getting pretty heavy with some of my mods). In my opinion 1/8 is a really good scale whilst still being relatively affordable

This link to my build might be of some interest to you.

well Monotheist you you hit the nail on the head,

After reading and reading most of the night ( no Christmas Eve ha ha ) After nice family dinner . I have realized that Armory is the only option for affordable tanks in large scale.

Not sure which one to go with as I really wanted a Bradley or the AAV Amphibious vehicule.

they are about 4000 from Russia I believe and that is more than I can spend.

Mono your tank looks great sir .

I will be able to get my small boys on top of the tank and give them little rides .

Is there any affordable Bradley ???

There is very little available in 1:8 static. If your stuck on it you may as well just get a full blown kit or assembled model. Not much point in trying to do it your self. It WILL cost more to convert a static as most are not designed for RC and need lots of work.

OH and 1:8 is the ******* size in the hobby. You wont find many that have 1:8 scale in the US. It is bigger in Europe but not here. Those that can afford large scale just go 1:6th.

I have realized that Armory is the only option for affordable tanks in large scale.
I also came to the same conclusion when researching for one last year. Another possibility are the new 1/6 Shermans from China. These look pretty good as well.

As for strapping your boys to the top 1/8 is probably a bit too small however I have a cart which can hold a couple of kids which the King Tiger happily pulls around.

Panther G is right, also there are plenty of figures and accessorises for 1/6 scale. You'll have more fun doing dioramas or figures and stuff for your tank than 1/8 scale.

There are almost no accessories for the 1/8 tanks. If you want them detailed you'll have to scratch whats not provided with the tank. After building a bunch of 1/16 Tamiya's and having every after market option just a mouse click away it's been a lot of fun making my own for my 1/8 KT. Paul

Well those are good points guys

dolls are for girls true.

Now If I can get a decent 6 scale for 2-3000 I may jump on it .

Is there any used ones ???

Where do I look ???

What choices do I have in 6 scale and can I move it myself ? I am strong but dont want a crane to move my toy either .

Dont like Shermans Mono I like German tanks or Bradleys .

I have a 1/9th scale RC Abrams (Still in the Box). Its the 21st Century tank that sold at Wal Mart stores years ago. It has the same electronics as the 1/6 Stuart tank. PM me if you are interested.
