The Tanker's Lounge

RE: The Tanker's Lounge
Well, a couple weeks ago I had some horny bullfrogs doing their own thing on our pool steps while the water level was lowered to do some work on it, & was able to get some nice photos to post here.
Today I encountered a much smaller intruder who had managed to get himself into the pool's skimmer. At frst I thought it was one of the many small toads we have been getting around the property for some time now, because quite a few times I have rescued them from the water before they ended up drowning themselves. But this one was way differently colored than our typical toads, & actually much more beautiful (that is, for anyone who thinks frog/toads can even be considered ... *beautiful*). Looking more closely, it also seemed to have toe pads for climbing too. Turns out, as far as a little research I've done, the likely suspects are either a Cope's Gray Tree Frog or an Eastern Gray Tree Frog. I'm just not 100% sure which since they are rather similar in markings on the top, & both even have the yellowish/orangish coloration on their underneath thigh areas of the hind legs as this one had too, but it seems for my area of Pennsylvania, it would most likely be the Eastern Gray Tree Frog.
I managed to get it into an old plastic blueberry container so I could move the little thing out of the pool skimmer to a nice cool shaded area on the lower end of the property.
Thing is, after I opened the container for it to hop away, it just wanted to sit there ... as I would spin the container, it kept spinning itself to face me again. Even when I tried coaxing it by nudging him a little & even holding the container at different vertical angles, where the frog was hanging on with just its front 2 legs, & where I wasn't even holding the container off the ground, as the hind legs were resting on the ground/grass ... the little guy just wouldn't let go & kept climbing back into the container. It was actually very adorable, I should have taken video instead, but got quite a number of good photos anyway.
After I had taken quite a few close-up photos like those above, I was trying to coax it off the container again, & all of a sudden it jumped right at me & onto my right forearm, rather than jump away from me to the grass ... but that caught me off guard & startled me enough where I flinched my arm, & the little guy dropped down about foot to the grass below anyway. I felt bad, but the frog seem unphased & OK. So I got a few more natural shots of him sitting in the grass.
It's nicely shaded & a cool area where he was sitting when I left, & plenty of trees within 5-10 feet for it to choose to climb. Just hope he stays down there & doesn't come back up for a pool visit again!

I am surprised he (or she?) didn't eat the fly!

Or maybe food wasn't on his mind, because it was just that this frog seemed to be an almost friendly, photogenic nature model, taunting me to take pictures while he sat there rather than jump away. I must have taken 20 or more close-up pictures with the camera lens mere centimeters from him, & he never moved or acted like he was in any danger at all. Matter of fact, when I first went to release him from the container, I didn't even have my camera. After opening the container up & a few times trying to urge him to jump away, he just sat there, so I decided to go get my camera from the house. When I returned with the camera, which was quite a few minutes later, he was still sitting there in the exact same spot on the open container, so the photo shoot began!

I went up to the high country with some friends shooting skeet last week. I had not shot skeet in 30 years and I hit a solid 4 out of 5 each turn.It was a beautiful day with lots of wild flowers everywhere.
In this picture I have just thrown a clay, and my friends daughter is about to blast it. We were above tree line at 11,800 ft.
Can you spot the clay?

So it seems that the new set up here at RCU subscribes me to every thread I post in. And then does not unsubscribe even when I "empty the folder" and it says I have no subscriptions. Is it just me?
I did post in the "bug" forum about the missing Tank Photo Gallery that Airbrushler and I shared a thread about and it reappered so it seems that the powers that be are on watch.

Rex, if memory serves in '67 there was a veritable herd of T34's thundering across the desert in Sinai and on Golan. I'm sure it was one that got either captured or knocked out and ended up at the near work shop for stripping to keep the others running.

Rex, I checked at the last battle to see if the museum displays any models. I didn't see any, so I asked the owner's son. The answer was not at this time, but they would like to in the future. I'll keep checking from time to time.
