Captain,

I got the Tamiya Panter 1/25 track part number (8085028) (9335318 - 15 spare links) from the instruction sheet on the TamiyaUSA website (Kit # 56601).

How many 15x sets are needed to build up two Hetzer tracks (with some spares too)?

borealis,

I'd recommend getting the full tracks if possible. The Blue Star kit came with 220 individual track links. 30 links measure approx. 200 mm / 7.87"
I'm not sure how many you actually would use for the tracks vs spares on the hull, but the Tamiya tacks would appear to be the way to go.
The JPEG below show all the Blue Star links compared to the Tamiya tracks. The 'spare' bag of 15 Tamiya links is on the left.

The Tamiya tracks sets are approx. 530 mm / 21" long each side (x2). If I really need all those Blue Star link, I might have to buy some more. I want to solve the gearbox issue before getting any additional tracks.

FYI

According to Dave at Blue Star there are approx. 96 links on each side and 13 spares on the tank for a total of about 205 Hetzer links

The Tamiya Panther are a bit larger, but anything close to that number would guarantee you spares.

Kevin, I think a set of the Type 3 Tammys will fit. They are lower than the Type 1's you tried, length is about the same. If there is an interference problem with the upper hull front plate, with a little ingenuity one can trim here and there on the transmission frames. For an output shaft, you can used the stockers or if you want a straight shaft you can use a Pershing output shaft and if needs be the Type 1 sprocket adapter.

I do not have a set of the Tammy P4 TU's here, but if memory serves they are lower still than the Type 3's that go in most everything else.

I thought I might have the gear box issue solved (see the first pict) Tamiya Tiger I Type I drives........

Then I put the upper deck on (see the second picture)

Now I see why Panzerpaul had the main gun only move side to side[&o]
What I need are low profile gear boxes that are not too wide. Any suggestions?

Ex Pat Tanker mentions the Mato King Tiger gear set. Also want to check out the gear boxes on ETO - they look low pro

Small gearhead motors with bevel gear to the final drive!!
