Default My PZ III Side skirts

Hi All,
Sorry for the long span, Holidays, Families, Work, Beer, etc all combined to slow this project. Anyway. Did some more work, but couldn't find my last post ( great search engine you have here RCU ), so I decided to start a new post and perhaps my old post with pics ) will surface.
So here is my progress thus far. Pics 1 through 4 show the side skirt supports that I made from brass ( I plan on installing the inner supports made from plastic once done ) attached to the hull. Pics 5-8 show the parts I made replicating the side rail. To get the bends in the side rail, first top bend, I cut the rail and bent it to shape. I then soldered the splice back together with a brace soldered in the split. For the lower bend. I cut a slot and bent the rail back to level, I also provided a support for that cut. I just hope they hold. The original plastic part is shown in white . Pic 9 shows what the cut down rail looked like after cutting it down and before straightening. Pic 10 is just a shot looking down on the hull.

Next is to make the " L " bracket skirt hangers. I plan on soldering them to the support rail. Hope I have enough clips to hold everything together while soldering. Any suggestions will help. Also, if anyone can find my old thread, please repost it and I'll save it to a file.

Thanks again and happy tanking.

Oh, I forgot to mention. I also used some small brass threaded bolts to secure the rail hangers to the hull ( with CA ). Were there was enough room I used two. I also had to readjust the hangers that connected to the rear air inlets. I just couldn't get them correct, so I ended up securing the bottom portion to the running boards. In real life, I'm sur they wouldn't be strong enough, but in my 1/16 th world, worked great. Just not prototypical. Added that to cut off the Rivet Counters ( no offense rivetcounter ).

Heres some more pics of my PZ III with the side rails and skirts..
Pic 1 is the studes that I made from brass bar stock. At the top, the white piece is from the kit.
Pic 2 an 3 is of the side rails with the studs attached
Pic 4 is a mock up with the side rails and the kits original side skirts ( plan on doing these in brass as well).
Hope you enjoy. I was a bit suprised at the fact that no-one made any comments. Come on guys, a Jr. modeler such as myself needs a pat on the back every so often. LO)L.

Thanks Airbrushler, Comming from you means alot. I plan on doing a late war ( Battle of Kursk ) type paint job. Here are also some more mock-ups as I finished the studes on the TC side. Like I said, I plan on doing the skirts in brass sheet, so I don't think I'll have the rippled effect like the plastic gives. I do want them to fit very snuggly, but not to the point that it distorts the over all image??? Any thoughts will be greatly appreiciated.

Jim,

The rails look great and the mock up seems to be working well. Are there "L" shaped hooks that go on the fenders as well?

Keep the photos coming!

just curious, was this the thread you were looking for.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11...m.htm#11239488

Went straight to Google - "PZ III Side Skirt 1sgt" and this is what came up. If it is the correct thread you can credit Foxy for the tip from the RC Group thread.

ksoc,
Yes that is it, not sure why I couldn't find it, I used the search a njumber of times, but never came up. Thanks

Maus45,
Yes there are and will be the supposrt that are attached to the fenders. It looks by the kit provided skirts that the slots are a bit high up, so I'll have to make them a bit lower.

1sgt,

I did not use the Google search at the bottom of the RCU page. I used the search window on my browser - direct to Google, bypassing RCU.

Enjoying the thread. Will bookmark this one.
