He was a great guy. I met him several times over the years and he was always very friendly and easy to talk to. He autographed my M4 Sherman for me when we met for the last time in June at Reading. He was thrilled to talk about the tank and worked for Baldwin where he manufactured the suspension systems. Although he was exempt form service he gave it up to go fight with his buddies from Philly. I wish more of us had the chance to meet him. Brett and Mia were with me the last time NEAD attended the WW II weekend at the MAAM. The show will not be the same without Bill & Babe. For me they were the highlight of the event.
This photo is one of my favorites. He was always generous and kind.
I can't say it enough guys....stop waiting to go to these events and museums. WAKE-UP...they are closing. Aberdeen Proving Ground Ordnance Mus is GONE now and the fantastic Veterans who are living history like Wild Bill and Babe, are disappearing before our very eyes. I am very lucky to have met them both. God rest their souls.
On behalf of the Held family and the NEAD club thank you Bill, Babe and to all our Veterans for your service.
