I got a chance to watch the new film Fury today. Well i think that was probably the best War movie i have ever seen. Even the sceens inside the tank where very realistic. Can't remember when I've seen a film with tank interior scenes done as well as this. The action was incredible so if you get a chance to see it, do.

Saw it in the theater, already have the DVD ordered, so it'll be in my hands on the 27th to get a second look.

I'm in the minority, but I didn't care for it. The characters were unlikeable, with the new kid being the exception. The battle scenes were... unrealistic to say the least. It's saving grace was the brief appearance by the only running Tiger 1 Tank in existence. Tank movies I really like, even with their flaws are: Battle of the Bulge, White Tiger, The Beast, Kelly's Heroes to name a few. Not saying Fury was horrible, just not my cup of tea. Glad you guys liked it. Perhaps there will be more tank movies made.

I'm a HUGE ww2 buff and have over 100 ww2 movies, documentary's, etc and I thought Fury was OK at best. The movie was doing ok until the last scene where a few guys in a broken down tank take on hundreds of SS soldiers. There are so many MUCH better ww2 movies out there IMO. Also even though its not ww2 one of the best tank movies ive ever seen is The Beast. The movie was made in 1988 and its about a Soviet T72 tank crew in the Afgan war.

I haven't seen Fury yet, but I do agree that "The Beast" was one of the best gosh dang tank movies I have seen. Sahara and Tank are on my favorites list as well. Actually, any movie with tanks in it is on my favorites list.

After I posted my previous reply, I discovered a 9 minute movie trailer on IMDB that was called "Tank Brigade" that was made in Czechoslovakia in 1955. It is a very realistic movie. I guess they had all kinds of captured and war surplus stuff around that was just waiting to be destroyed.
No women, no love scenes, just bullets, bombs and blowing stuff up. I gotta get this movie !!!

Yeah but really? 5 guys in a Russian tank. Not very realistic is that. The 55 could barely fit the 4 guys it needed in the first place. Yeah it was a cool flick but the parts I liked about Fury was that they where actually filming from inside a Sherman or they did a damned fine job of mocking one up for the inside scenes.

I agree about the characters. But really, I have had lots of soldiers I don't like that besides the code of conduct in uniform, are just A**holes.

One thing I wondered, don't Sherman hatches lock from the inside? If so, big hole in movie plot. Letting the enemy open the hatch from the outside just doesn't work in my book. If shermans didn't have locking hatches, they sure should have.

Also, they said that they were on that tank since North Africa. Big whoops, that tank wasn't made until at least late 44.

Not really - the chief protagonist for which the show is named for is hardly the best effort that the producers could have done. A mock up Tiger based on a T55 chassis? Really, is that the best they can do? I mean, Russia has the Kubinka tank museum and someone even built a ground-up Tiger that is heaps more accurate than that White Tiger abomination.

Perhaps that's why, in the trailer, you only see fleeting glimpses of the Tiger, and only right at the end.

Im not sure why they had to make a fantasy movie like Fury when the story in that book is real and doesn't have to resort to cliche, inaccuracies or just plain making stuff up. It's also far more emotionally charged and frankly a really sad book. It would have made a much more poignant film about war. It even has Shermans in it, Fireflys at that.

I believe in White Tiger there was some sort of issue with using the Tiger they'd sourced for it so they went ahead with that fake one. Tiger inaccuracies aside, it's a good film. The Russians are putting out some really very good war films at the moment.

I enjoyed the film, and I went in knowing that it was not meant to be based on actual events. I agree some of the characters were a bit overdone, but it seemed pretty accurate from my experiences in the military (minus the chocolate bar jokes and hooking up with locals of course.) They didn't use a lot of CGI during the film, and per AFN all of the tanks and vehicles were functioning restorations.
