Default Queen of the desert - Infantry Tank Mk.II “Matilda” - Scratch built

Dear Colleagues,
Introduction of mynew project in cooperation with Chris
The Matilda was themost impressive British tank in the early years of WW II and after 3000 Matildawas built, production ended in 1943. Almost 1000 of `em were shipped to andused by the Soviet Army.
The term of thereport title occured towards the end of 1940 because the Italians had no weaponwho could deal with the Matilda.
First step of theproject was 3D design with CAD (Inventor):

Starting to build begins with the lower hull:

After the lower hull is roughly done, the upper hull is in process:

Switching to the bogies (parts for only one bogie at the picture)…

…and the idler wheel.

The muffler…

First time to mount the tracks ;-)

Cheers
Freddy

GREAT Scott... now there's a beauty of a tank! You ARE correct, too bad those couldn't be up-gunned later on in the war because it's armor was something to be dealt with.

Thanks for sharing.

I have always wanted to scratch build a Matilda. It was going to be my next project. I'm glad you posted your project ---you may have changed my plan. I will be watching for updates on this beauty, and hope you produce it for sale. Put my name at the top of your list of potential customers.

Great work on that one. I wish I had the cad skills to do small parts never mind the entire tank. Very impressed with the design and the build.

WOW!.. Chris showed me a few scans of this a while ago... I am one who will purchase this when it becomes available.. Simply Put... It looks Fantastic! and, in my opinion long over - due! ... of-coarse the big two questions are.. When and How Much for the premium?

BTW GREAT JOB!!

Joe

I agree with you... long over due.

So a Matilda and the M48 are two I need to save up for.

Glad, you like this report
The Matilda prototype is almost done, but the adjustments have to be made before serial production can start.
The construction of the M48 prototype have just started...

Some more pictures of the Matilda kit:

Nice. Looks more complex than my Centurion. Assume the prototype turret is 3D, but resin for the production version?

yes - resin cast will be the production version - that´s the plan.

well, in my opinion the Matilda is a bit easier to build because of smaller size, but I agree the bogies are a little more tricky

I'm sure many of you guys have already seen this, but the Tank Museum has a lovely series called the Matilda Diaries that details the restoration of their full size. Might be good motivation and inspiration for those looking forward to building this beautiful kit!

This will be way out of my price range, but good on ya to all involved because this will be an absolute gem of a beautiful little tank.

…engine cover locks…

…muffler straps…

…rear light panel…

…the Matilda prototype is built
