Redesigned SdKfz 222 by Metal Origin
Looks like according to their facebook page they've gone back to the drawing board on the 222/223. All I see is problems with that small a vehicle having a 540 and those pot metal gears. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised and they've
done some beefing up.

I would imagine that having just one motor would mean you could use a little bit larger motor like a 540, but that definitely is a small vehicle, and you're definitely right, Bret, those pot Metal Gears have got to GO!
Any idea what the price might be once they get done with the refit?

Well, the FB images I saw had NO pot metal gears but an ALL steel metal gearbox as it looks totally redesigned from the ground up.

I have one of their new pumas....not too bad as far as casting and metal. Gears don't look too bad. I am working toward starting it soon. I was a little impressed with what I saw versus what I expected from the information I found on here and elsewhere about the puma.

I skimmed over their FB page; where did it mention the 222 is redesigned? I have one of the these as well as a Puma. Neither
kit have I started nor looked at. Is there anything unique about their gears that would prevent them from being replaced with steel
versions by the end user?

I saw the same thing that Jeff did and that was the reason that I didn't think they had changed the pot Metal Gears to steel. Usually when they say Metal Gears it means pot metal, but if they're steel they make sure to point that out and they actually use the word steel.

MAYBE I'm just miss-remembering what I saw 10 years ago when I looked into a friends kit he was selling. I didn't remember an actual 'box' and the gears back then were indeed cast metal but thought they 'rest' inside a plastic housing much like the WSN T-34 original arrangement did.
I just saw a picture of a new shiny suspension and a gearbox along with the word NEW and just believed it had been re-designed.
I have seen a lot of things since then... maybe dementia IS setting?

whatever mechanics that are designed could be available as a retrofit upgrade for our first gen models.
Not having been in a hurry to build these I have been waiting for such upgrades. I've never
been a fan of molded zinc gears.
If not steel at least brass gears. I don't believe many modeler/owners are looking the 'thrash' these models.

Yeah... a shooting's not good enough, just a thrashing with a wet noodle.
Very shiny suspension and I do like both the 222 & 223!

Well geeze louise I hope they did NOT go all 50's show car with chromed suspension and drive line components; what is it now a 1/16 scale low rider?

Well question answered. I asked the question on their FB page:Steel gears or no. The answer was die cast.
They also answered my question as to whether new parts could upgrade an older kit. Answer was no. Perhaps
if I get the 223 it will be an upgraded version and I'll be able to compare.
So there it is. I applaud their commitment to their products making this one better. I've never unwrapped my
222 so when I get around to it I'll look over the gears.

Great debunking everyone... their statement sure was a misleading misnomer (if there ever was such a description) that threw me off. But that's easy to do these days.

I really want to build my Puma. I would like to replace the gears though. I'm just at a loss as where to start. I've looked for them, but no luck so far.
If any of you find anything, let me know please 😁

I agree Gary. Once I get around to finishing mine I'll drive it till it busts up then maybe think about it. I looked again and they advertise an "upgrade kit" for 89 Euro. Not sure what that consists of though. May send them a note to see whats what.
