Mato Sherman T49 duckbills coming off?
#2
Seems strange, I've had quite afew sets and getting the end connectors and duckbills on and of was a total nightmare, had to use a vice to crush them back on. I'd see if you can get your set replaced as they don't sound right.

Make sure they are pressed together tightly. If not they will come apart. I use a small hammer and hand andvill to put them together. Also a drift helps on the duckbills.

Well, so far none others have come off. I went and tried to pull them all. I took the loose one and scuffed up the ends of the link pins and put some super glue on them and re-set the duckbill.
So far so good.

If it comes off again. Take the track off and set it on its side and coil it up and set it on the back of a vice and use a pointy center punch on the end of the pin. Hit gently with a hammer and that should peen the end and tighten up the duckbill

I have gone through one track length and staked every pin with a nail set filed to a point. Will do the other track tomorrow. Hopefully this will be the end of loose duckbills!

My jumbo sherman has mato duckbills on it. Its a mato metal lower, ive had other peoblems but not lost duckbills.
Mato sucks for customer service good luck getting spare duckbills.
if you dont have luck i can look, i think i have a couple spares. But... the tanks did loose them in real life. I intemtionally pulled a couple on each side of my taigen set to give this look, so dont fret, it just looks more realistic. But if you want it complete and mato wont help PM me amd I will look for my spares.

I contacted Mato and they are sending me 20 duckbills free.
I noticed that that knurl one end of the track pins but not the ends that go into the duckbills. I suggested they knurl both ends. Or, stake the assemblies.
Yes, losing duckbills is a correct look, but sadly the pins then are too long and the opposing tooth slides out of the track and jams up the track stopping the tank. If you wanted a missing duckbill look you would have to use shorter pins and then you'd have the problem of the outbound tooth coming loose unless you knurled or staked that end of the pin.

So I got the pack of duckbills from Mato. Nice customer service.
But, hopefully I will not need them.
I used a nail set ground to a sharp point, and, supporting the knurled end (the non-duckbill end) of the linkage pin on an anvil, I staked the duckbill end of every single linkage pin. So far, no lost duckbills.
