Default New WWII Armor Book: 'Spearhead'

Here's a brand new book I've started reading, 'Spearhead' by Adam Makos and it is excellent. It's the story of Corporal Clarence Smoyer who was a gunner on Sherman tanks and then gunner on the T26E3 Pershing that took on the Panther in front of the Cologne Cathedral. You know that battle from the film we've all seen about that shootout.

The author (Makos) also wrote that book 'A Higher Call' about that shot up B17 being escorted toward England by that German fighter. That book was pretty good too but had a lot about the participants pre-war & personal lives.

Spearhead is more focused on these men's war experiences and what it was like being a Sherman/Panther crewman. This is a Great book if you like tanks (which we all do on here!)

The book was written after stringent research and interviewing Smoyer and one of the German Panther crew (Pvt. Gustav) and this is their stories. Smoyer and Gustav met just a few years ago as friends now and not enemies back then.

And NO Crius and Maus45!! I'm NOT going to read it to you!!! LOL!!!

Mike

Agreed, looks like an excellent read. Downloaded the epub version earlier this week but have only skimmed through it.

Excellent read, well written book.

FYI, these are also the same 3rd Armor Division Tankers that went on the record and let not only the “Supreme Commander”, but the nation know just how worthless the WWII “Sherman” was against the kraut armor they were fighting in the ETO, late 1944, early 1945.
