Default 1/16 Taigen late tiger I rebuild #2

Hi guys, Shortly after wrapping up my last late Taigen tiger I build I had the idea on making Tiger #312.

I've seen some illustrations and other renditions of this tank on the net and it just clicked with me.
Not too long after I made the decision on building this tank a late tiger I popped up on imex's S&D special page and I figured this would be the perfect candidate for this build. The model was an older plastic edition late tiger I, w/ zinc gearbox painted in grey. Unlike a few of the other S&Ds I've built over the years this one had no structure damage, and only a busted exhaust stack. Where this one was damaged was the electronics. The motherboard had a corrupted sound file and a stick was broken on the TX.

A new Taigen RX and TX were fitted, and the gearbox was swapped with the steel ball bearing one from taigen. The other mechanical / electrical mods that went in was the addition of my recharge jack, LED mounted fiber optic rear convoy light, Coax MG34T barrel / LED mount, and modding the smoke system to be refueled from the front of the vehicle. For the hull reworking I did the usual mods, deleting the secondary antenna tube, deleting the molded in tools, and the early Tiger I s mine and engine cover plate fittings.

For the remainder of the tank's detailing I used the same detail upgrades that I fitted to the last late tiger I built, so no new parts were needed. Outside of my detail parts (East Coast Armory -- 1/16th Scale Sherman Detail Upgrades) I used taigen PE grill covers, a KT / late tiger I 3d printed loader's hatch off of shapeways, HL KT tool / MG34T runner, and a taigen metal crowbar. Also added was the taigen late tracks and sprockets / idlers set.

One new detail part that was added was my new 3D printed German AFV antenna base,

The tank's side track removal cable was also changed, as the early one was an early pattern and this along with other fittings were needed to fully convert to late tiger specs. The new cable was scratch built along with the mounts.

Outside of the body work for removing the molded in tools, the biggest revision needed is for the turret. The extra turret roof armor plates were fabricated and fitted. Like the last build 1/8th inch thick lexan sheets were utilized. The stock copula was also shortened to give the correct height and sculpted weld beads were then added to complete the look. Other turret details to point out are the little handles on the spare track mounts, and the riveting on the rear bustle bin. The stock MG42 was not used as the 42 was never used on tanks for the AA, The HL MG34t was used in it's place. This was fitted to the stock taigen AA mount.

For the paintwork there are several options I have seen rendered for this vehicle. For my build I went with the 2 tone Yellow and brown scheme. For the Barrel I went with the primer grey look. Probably my favorite part of the paint is the bright yellow band w/ the number on the barrel. For the markings I went woth the decal set fro Hussar. The Hussar markings are awesome, and a plus is that they give you a ton of markings for other 1/16 tiger I's

This build was a quick one, and everything basically fell into place.

Moral of the story, If you like to tinker and rebuild these models always hit up the S&D section... you'll never know what you will find!

Currently I'm editing the videos of this build, I also posted all the pics of this model on the ECA facebook page,
https://www.facebook.com/EastCoastArmory/

P.S. This build was wrapped last month, after this one was finished I dug into my next build... which is another S&D build , but more on that one is to come!
