1) it’s not the Wuhan virus, that’s a dog whistle name for it. Call it Covid 19, that is the real name.
2) the seasonal flue in general kills .1% of those infected. Covid 19 kills 1 present, that’s 10 times more deadly than the flue
The clinical name is Covid 19, but it has been called by many others. Most US media, including CNN, were calling it China or Wuhan flu until the CCP objected (Chinese Communist Party).
Many other diseases are referred to by where they originated, or first gained notoriety - Spanish Flu;

Zika Fever - Forest in Ugandan Forest
Ebola - River in the Demo Republic of Congo
Lyme disease - Named after the town of Lyme in Connecticut
MERS - Middle East Respiratory Syndrome

China is currently suffering from a swine fever outbreak they refer to as the African Swine Fever.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...e-in-lab-tests

As far as calculating fatality percentage, you need to have trustworthy data on total infections vs total deaths. China's data needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt.

So far the public has seen a lot of hype and panic with very little hard data to go on.

Italy had over 790 ish people die in one day yesterday. They are 3 weeks ahead of the USA with the infection. Italy has 60 million ish people so the USA Population is 5 times the size of Italy . If you use these numbers to project the path of the infection, in 3 weeks American will be loosing 3900 people a day in 3 weeks.
I was in CVS yesterday picking up my wifeís medication, while I was waiting I watched a number people picking up items and then touching their faces.......please be careful people.

You can't really do the math that way. Italy had a much higher percentage of its population in the high-risk bracket than many other countries. That makes a huge difference. It's still going to get ugly in the United States but it's not going to be that bad. Another advantage in the u.s. is that they got ahead of it a lot faster than Italy did. Hopefully all this stuff we're going through will pay off in a lower death total.

The hospitals are already running out of ventilators in NYC...
Every Governor has the duty to prepare their state - In 2015 Cuomo decided not to purchase 16,000 ventilators he was told NY State needed. Instead Cuomo set up a Task Force to create a rationing system for who would get the existing ventilators.

Also, regarding Italy, to build on what Crius posted;

Everyone has a responsibility to prepare themselves and their family. The city, county, state, or federal government should be a backup, not your 1st line of defense.

Saw earlier today that 5 students had already tested positive over the weekend after getting back from frolicking over spring break. Young, dumb & stupid.

To show how small this world truly is, they attend Univ. of Tampa - the same small private university that I attended in the late '70s. Talk about bring floored after reading the news!

When we saw the videos of all those idjits on those beaches you knew it was an exposure waiting to happen. There are people among us who don't get it, feel the rules and SIP orders don't mean them. In my own neighborhood there are those who are still going out somewhere ( not work for just a few hours and at odd times) almost daily and having multiple visitors stop by their homes. Unfortunately while some of these may never know they might have the virus and are carriers they're likely to pass it along to some unfortunates who can ill afford the disease. But hey, what's a few dead people who you don't know when your petty selfishness is at stake, right?

We have no virus in our little village of a city. Draconian price controls were put on last week but there has been zero panic buying, all our shops and magazines are stocked as usual. Price controls cover everything from roofing nails to buckwheat to medicines to shoe laces. Tourists and 'unregistered guests' have been invited to leave. Hospitals have gone on emergency footing, retired doctors, nurses and lab tecs have been recalled to service. Two hospitals have been designated infectious disease hospitals, one on north side near us and one on southside near City Center if and when needed. Emergency service, fire and ambulance, have been expanded significantly. All military units of all services are locked down on base and service members, primarily officers, who live off base or ship were ordered to report to base/ship and stay there for the duration. Emergency medical response units have been set up by all military services to aid the citizens if and as needed. Watching the web cams and observing when we go to food emporium, there are no masks seen anywhere, citizens are going about their normal business and life. All public events are cancelled until 01 May. Victory Day Parade is not, that is 09 May, and rehearsals commence for the parade the third week of April.

Was out for a walk today in north NJ, everyone are hiding in their houses. A good sign. Looking at what the southern states are doing, a bad sign.

Default Southern California Abrams on the move.

Preparing for traditional SoCal civil unrest, perhaps?

Breaking News.
March 26, 2020. CBS News LA, Twitter. The Navy says the tanks being moved by train through the Los Angeles area are part of a routine movement of supplies. Mayor Eric Garcetti says in coronavirus briefing that the National Guard has not been mobilized to the city of Los Angeles.

Interesting Abrams paint markings.

What bemuses me is the United States NAVY is being quoted on the movement of Abrams Tanks,
Has any one told the US Army that someone is moving their Tanks around the Country ?

Not unusual, it is called intermodal shipping. Hopefully, just armor coming home from war and being delivered though a California Navy Sea Command Shipping Port. Guessing, the Abrams are headed back to a US Army Training Center.

The Navy owns lots of tanks. Think Marines.

A little to literal people, this was a news report on shipping tanks and the US Navy does that, remember WWII D-Day.

The US Navy transports all types of DOD equipment including US Army Tanks on their ships and other commercialLy contracted merchant ships. Those ships may arrive and depart through US Navy ports and harbors as well as civilian commercial ports in California. The train and itís cargo may have originated from a US Navy Shipping Port in California, hence the news report referencing the Navy. Which service the tanks belong to is unknown, could be Marine Armor or Army Armor? Both services have large training bases in the area where the train load of Abrams was reportedly headed.

Los Angeles has had empty shelves at grocery stores for almost two weeks now. It is getting better, but would be best for people to buy normal amounts of food so that everyone can have some, rather than stocking up and not allowing others to have any.

From the picture those should not be Marine tanks "as far as I am aware" they only have M1A1's those appear to me M1A2 or later since they have the CCTV, Turret Cooling module, etc.

USA is number one, 82,000 confirmed cases of the virus.... more than anywhere in the world.
