Default TAKOM - 1/16th Wiesel A1 TOW

Spotted this on Chris Toadman Hughes FB page, it's static, but no doubt some one will have a crack at RC'ing it?

It's pretty cool. I'm sure someone will R/C it.

It's great that Takom is making so many 1/16 models (only in 2020 three new kits - Panzer I A/B and M5 Stuart).

The Stuart is from Classy Hobby not Takom

So many nice things available now, so little time and money to enjoy them...
Hope they bring out a few variants, I love these little machines.

Yeah Andy is moving his online warehouse location from Oregon to Arizona so they have things on sale so they can save on transportation costs.

New build of the Wiesel - https://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/foru...?f=202&t=31516 -
If you've seen his other work, you know this'll be good.

This is cool but, my first question as a commander/driver would be, 'Where's the ammo?' Our TOW Jeeps in Berlin Brigade had a rack that could carry three rounds (one in the gun) for a total of four rounds. We were supported by another Jeep that pulled a small trailer (the ammo carrier) that had an additional 4-6 rounds. I don't see any provision for additional rounds on the Wiesel which means its ammo carrier has to be some other type of vehicle, perhaps, a kubelwagen modified for such a purpose? I like it, though. It would probably be a hoot to drive across country.

Hi Kolholznik
Good question, that I can't answer. If you look at the Wiki entry, an ammo carrier was either Prototyped or studied - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiesel_AWC - but doesn't look like it proceeded.
I very much doubt a Kubelwagen would be considered - ancient technology now.

I think I just dated myself! LOL I should've previously phrased that as "a kubelwagen-type of vehicle designed to support the Wiesel..." but, now that I've checked-out the wiki link you provided and see it was deployed with airborne units, I gotta think that maybe it was intended to be a one-shot, hit-and-run kind of vehicle after all. Hmmm...

The TOW replaced the tried-and-true M40 106mm recoilless rifle for the US Army during the early-to-mid 1970's and we just swapped them out for the 106's we had mounted on Jeeps. Then, we got to go spend a week in lovely Fulda getting trained on the TOW. We had mixed feelings about it. While the weapon system weighed 50% less than the 106, it could defeat any thickness of tank armor (at the time) and had 2.5x the effective range. But it was still an infrared-sighted, wire-guided missile that had to be held on-target until impact. The muzzle flash was 2x worse than a 106, meaning, as soon as it was launched you gave your position away. As a result we had to adapt out tactics and Jeeps were great for making fast getaways.

This is just the kind of stuff I think about when it comes to military vehicles. Sometimes the jobs they perform are even more interesting than the vehicles themselves.

Hi Kolholznik
Yes it's air transportable, follows in the footsteps of Tetrach & Locust, though with less Armour, size & crew, but with the TOW version - more firepower - for a short time.
Louis has posted an update - https://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/foru...?f=202&t=31516 -

This was posted on Armortek last year, 1/6th scale, but not an Armortek model - https://www.armortek.co.uk/Forum3b/v...hp?f=41&t=8202 -

A further update from Louis - https://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/foru...?f=202&t=31516 -

He has also answered the reloads question - 6 reloads, 1 external, 5 internal. How & where - apart from 'some-' unanswered.
