Post your soft skinned military vehicles.
#1

Saw this over on another forum and seems like an interesting idea. Post photos of your soft skinned vehicles; RC or not. Whatever you got, from the cheapest to whatever. “In military terminology, a soft-skinned vehicle is any vehicle that is not armored, such as a truck, motorcycle, Jeep or car. The term soft-skinned vehicle may apply also to half-tracks and scouting vehicles having little or no armor. Include your ATVs and MRAPs too.”

This beetle is a little pride for me. It is RC, long headlights, short headlights, indicators, motor sounds, horn and driver voices, and not a single wire can be seen.

And two of the statics. The jeep has all those numbers painted:

You would ask for this now, when the weather is too miserable to take nice pictures outdoors wouldn't you

I'll post some more as and when I get the chance to get some decent pictures if/when the weather improves next week...

Glad you liked it! I did a small test video prior to getting a smaller speaker that I was able to fit inside in the trunk compartiment, but right now it has been finished. As soon as I remove the things I have in the desk I am planning to propper record it again and also making a video driving it outside home. But you can have an idea of the functions here:
Most of my tanks have maniac-tank commander voices in the heat of battle, but in this case I wanted something different and I fitted more "posh" voices, like the driver was an austro-hungarian baron. It brings variety to the diorama and the RC meetings.
It was a challenge to be able to fit everything in such a small vehicle, where absolutelly nothing can be seen. All the seats (except the driver seat, with the driver) are empty. No boxes and no camo nets hidding anything. All the electronic parts are hidden under the trunk, in the motor compartiment or under the rear seats. But I think the feature that I love most is the use of long and short headlights in the same bulb. That is something I never did before and now is a must that I will try to implement everywhere.

I'll see if I can get some good photos of my soft skin stuff, but if I go as far as to include all the diecast we'll be here for weeks.
Here's a little laugh, I'm posting this with my phone, using speech to text. For some reason when I said soft-skinned, my phone wrote sauce getting. This thing makes me laugh like that all the time. But now that I think about it, a couple of sauce getting vehicles might come in handy.

Yeah, I'm not going to dig the 1/18 scale stuff out, we'd be here all week...
Found a few more pictures on the phone:

Big Bertha (IDF CAT D9R)

M4 HST

Fake M29 Weasel
(Full disclosure - I bought the M4 HST as a static build and retrofitted it for RC)

The M35 with lights, sound and FPV. Look close and you can see the camera in the passenger seat.

CCKW, designed by Martin, printed by yours truly and assembled by Paco.

Q60 given paint, tail lights and sound.

Stock Torro M16

Stock JJRC Transporter

Stock B36 Ural, came with proportional speed and servo steering. Probably the best truck I ever bought for less than $75

And now for the works in progress, starting with a GAZ that's going to end up as a tractor for hauling trailers

WC51, runs and has lights and sound, still needs details

A Q60 that will eventually be a tanker

Q64 Ambulance, still a long way to go

The fake scout car, from a shortened 1/18 M-16 halftrack. Runs but has no lights or sound. Yet.

And I'm not sure if these last two count (both still stock), but there's a pick-up

And what will someday be a camera truck like they use to film the Big Cats.

That's about it for 1/16, I almost forgot the Opel Blitz from asiatam, I'll post a pic of that later. I also have a few tasty pieces in 1/6 scale, like a Mercedes Benz 540K cabriolet, the ROC Jeep, and I have three 1/6 kubelwagen/schwimmwagen kits and two Jeep kits in 1/6 waiting for my attention.

Wow, Steyr RSO, and Maultier suspension! Which version of the RSO are you doing, those sprockets and idlers are beautiful.
If you made a kit to sell, I would buy one.

Smittyrob, Crius - thanks it will be the "Ost" version. I only have metal tracks for two machines (they are cast by friend in Europe, and very $$$$$$). But by the miracle of 3D printing other options for tracks may be available. The sprocket hubs and road wheels are printed Nylon (Shapeways). The Cab will be 3D printed and load bed mostly wood.
My rig was inspired by Erik Wikander of Sweden. He made an excellent RSO from PLA, Wood and metal. Link is here:
Best regards,
Bob
