New tank?

Once you learn to drive the Sheridan = being easy on the throttle, the tracks don’t break or pins walk out to often.

Get yourself a favor while they Sheridan is available, buy one along with a dozen or so extra track links from Tamiya to keep on hand. The links are cheap enough to stock up on and have replacement that will last you years of use.

I fear we won’t see any more tanks from Tamiya since they discontinued the Sherman, their best selling tank, the super Sherman, the panther, panzer 4 and Pershing.
I have a sad suspicion that as the molds wear out, the tanks will die and not return.
unless we see the Sherman come back out, as an omen, I think the future of tanks from Tamiya is doomed

Unfortunately I agree. And this process just drives their retail prices to outrageous levels. Tamiya makes the best tank models out there, but even they tend to be a bit greedy with their approach to the marketplace. But at least they provide pretty good customer service…Sad situation overall!!

I can't disagree with the others that we have seen the last of Tamiya's 1/16 tank line.
If you've been in this long enough you know they stopped production of them at least once before.
It was them and Bandai 20+ years ago. Bandai stopped first even though I'd heard that the had planned a T-34 release
and a Sherman of their own. Tamiya revamped their Sherman and King Tiger and began anew.
This time it feels different. The Chinese juggernaut is in the mix when the last time it wasn't yet a factor. I believe
the hand writing was on the wall when Tamiya's MSRP on average went to $1400. I can recall the bleats of 'too expensive'
and the ever growing turn to Heng Long, Torro and others. Every other day there were threads about whether or not a Tamiya
kit was 'worth it'...
If they return to the tank market great, if not well at least it was good while it lasted. Just proves my philosophy that you may as
well get the things you want while you can.

Well, Robert/sevoblast just posted a restoration project he’s started for a 40 year old Sherman, commenting how it has stayed similar all these years. From the recent few examples of Sherman builds I’ve not seen any indication that the molds are failing.
Tamiya has gotten really good mileage from those mold masters and I don’t see why they wouldn’t throw it onto the injection molding machine every now and then to make another batch, as each of them is already a sunk-in investment.
There’s a recent announcement that Heng Long would be shifting towards making tank models in turn rather than making everything at the same time, but I suspect Tamiya has already been doing so.

I was told by an inside source that Sherman tooling was in return to Japan for service when it disappeared. Like it’s gone forever.
I TrueType hope they release them again as so many of the newbies in my club want some Tamiya tanks.
As far as Sherman’s go, I don’t think taigen will release hvss. That would likely kill the sales of their other two Sherman’s which they can barely keep in stock so why self compete. And Hoobens Sherman, epic fail which I think they learned the hard way.
I’m regretting those few Tamiya EZ8s I built and sold now.....

I have also heard that taigen will never release a Sherman with hvss. I guess they looked into it and decided it would be just too difficult to produce. Personally, I don't think it can be all that hard, hooben is doing it. Now I'm thinking I should probably pick up one of the hooben Shermans, as that may be the only way I'll ever get an EZ 8. I should have paid Rich to build me one long ago.

My Feedback: (1)
I kick myself often now over the HVSS Tamiya hulls I have sold or traded over time. When I started making conversions to VVSS I felt the parts were surplus.... I guess I will have to live with my 6 running HVSS tanks (I had 8 but sold 2 last month!) until something new comes along!

Now I regret selling my Tiger 1,Pershing,Sherman,panther G , and the panzer 4. Over the last 15 years. And it was not by choice as it was a difficult time in my life along with getting divorced. 😒

Yea, saw that myself. Who wants to bet it'll be a Cromwell?

Most of Mr T's recent 1/16 RC tank releases have been proceeded by a static model in 1/35 of the same subject (which will saves time and money spent on research). Same for their 1/10 RC cars, usually have a 1/24 static model of the same subject out before the RC version. True for Sheridan, Type 10, Jp IV L70, M51, JS2, M26 at least. Don't know of any planned British releases in 1/35, but that would be a good indication of what the next RC tank would be. If they base it on existing models it sort of narrows it down to Cromwell or Challenger 2 as the rest of the line up is either too small (Valentine and Matilda) or the research is out of date (Churchill, Centurion, Chieftain).

Das Werk / Takom StuG III Ausf G
This may not be from Tamiya but I'm sure happy to see it arrive in time for Christmas. Will certainly be a candidate for a conversion or two in my household.

Agreed, but at least this one is accurate with far more detailing.
My guess Tamy releases a Challenger 2.

I'll be saving my money then. I know I'll incur the wrath of modern armor fans in general but anything after about 1960
is sssssssssssssooooooo borrrrrrrrriiing. They all look similar, have similar capabilities essentially have identical main guns.
Real snoozers. I'd be grateful to any model company that I'm a fanboi of for making modern armor 'cause it gives my wallet time to recover.
When Armortek announced this year's offerings and now the Churchill for early next year I knew I'd be eating beans quite a bit...
So I hope they offer modern armor next also...

Looking outside of the usual Big 3. There are some more interesting modern designs, but they're too niche to find a 1/16 release.
There are also some rather interesting turret swaps such as the M60-2000 or the Tank EX. There is also just extreme modifications of older tanks like the Israeli made, Turkish service Sabra II/M60T.
Unfortunately though for every one interesting prototype there is like four boring ones.
It is pretty boring when another "mainstream" MBT releases. But money talks, especially with tooling and prototyping costs.
I personally would love to see more light armor of any kind. A 1/16 BMP Family vehicle would be amazing but alas I think such a thing would only be released under the brand "3D printed at home"
